^12 (A)on one day in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month of ^[a]Adar.

The Jews Destroy Their Tormentors

9 Now ^(A)in the twelfth month, that is, the month of Adar, on the thirteenth day, ^(B)the time came for the king’s command and his decree to be executed. On the day that the enemies of the Jews had hoped to overpower them, the opposite occurred, in that the Jews themselves ^(C)overpowered those who hated them.

¹³ And the letters were ^(A)sent by couriers into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to annihilate all the Jews, both young and old, little children and women, ^(B)in one day, on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar, and ^(C)to plunder their ^[a]possessions. ^14 (D)A copy of the document was to be issued as law in every province, being published for all people, that they should be ready for that day. ¹⁵ The couriers went out, hastened by the king’s command; and the decree was proclaimed in ^[b]Shushan the ^[c]citadel. So the king and Haman sat down to drink, but ^(E)the city of Shushan was ^[d]perplexed.

⁶ Then Adoni-Bezek fled, and they pursued him and caught him and cut off his thumbs and big toes. ⁷ And Adoni-Bezek said, “Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off used to gather scraps under my table; ^(A)as I have done, so God has repaid me.” Then they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.
