⁵ “Indeed, ^(A)the light of the wicked is put out,
    and the flame of his fire does not shine.
⁶ The light is ^(B)dark in his tent,
    and his lamp above him is put out.
⁷ His strong steps are shortened,
    and his ^(C)own schemes throw him down.
⁸ For he is cast into a net by his own feet,
    and he walks on its mesh.
^9 (D)A trap seizes him by the heel;
    a snare lays hold of him.
¹⁰ A rope is hidden for him in the ground,
    a trap for him in the path.
^11 (E)Terrors frighten him on every side,
    and chase him at his heels.
¹² His strength is famished,
    and calamity is ^(F)ready for his stumbling.

¹⁹ Oh that you would ^(A)slay the wicked, O God!
    O ^(B)men of blood, ^(C)depart from me!
²⁰ They ^(D)speak against you with malicious intent;
    your enemies ^(E)take your name in vain.^[a]
21 (F)Do I not hate those who hate you, O Lord?
    And do I not ^(G)loathe those who ^(H)rise up against you?
²² I hate them with complete hatred;
    I count them my enemies.

¹⁸ Truly you set them in ^(C)slippery places;
    you make them fall to ruin.
¹⁹ How they are destroyed ^(D)in a moment,
    swept away utterly by ^(E)terrors!
²⁰ Like ^(F)a dream when one awakes,
    O Lord, when ^(G)you rouse yourself, you despise them as phantoms.
