6 Den första dagen i sjunde månaden började de offra brännoffer åt Herren, innan grunden till Herrens tempel ännu var lagd.

7 De gav pengar åt stenhuggare och snickare och även matvaror, dryckesvaror och olja till sidonierna och tyrierna, för att dessa sjövägen skulle föra cederträ från Libanon till Jafo i enlighet med det tillstånd som den persiske kungen Koresh hade givit dem. 8 I det andra årets andra månad,[a] sedan de hade kommit till Guds hus i Jerusalem, sattes arbetet igång av Serubbabel, Sealtiels son, och av Jesua, Josadaks son, och deras övriga bröder, prästerna och leviterna, och av alla dem som hade kommit till Jerusalem från fångenskapen. Det började med att de anställde de leviter som var tjugo år gamla eller mer till att leda arbetet på Herrens hus.

Tempelbygget påbörjas
7 De betalade stenhuggare och snickare med pengar och folket från Sidon och Tyros med mat, dryck och olja, för att de sjövägen skulle föra cederträ från Libanon till Jafo, som kung Kyros av Persien hade gett dem tillstånd till.
8 Andra året efter deras ankomst till Guds hus i Jerusalem, i andra månaden, påbörjades arbetet av Serubbabel, Shealtiels son, Jeshua, Josadaks son, och deras bröder präster och leviter och alla som kommit från fångenskapen till Jerusalem. De leviter som var tjugo år eller äldre tillsatte de som förmän för arbetet med Herrens hus.

6 On the first day of the seventh month they began to offer burnt offerings to the Lord, though the foundation of the Lord’s temple had not yet been laid.
Rebuilding the Temple
7 Then they gave money to the masons and carpenters,(A) and gave food and drink and olive oil to the people of Sidon and Tyre, so that they would bring cedar logs(B) by sea from Lebanon(C) to Joppa, as authorized by Cyrus(D) king of Persia.
8 In the second month(E) of the second year after their arrival at the house of God in Jerusalem, Zerubbabel(F) son of Shealtiel, Joshua son of Jozadak and the rest of the people (the priests and the Levites and all who had returned from the captivity to Jerusalem) began the work. They appointed Levites twenty(G) years old and older to supervise the building of the house of the Lord.

7 They gave money also unto the masons, and to the carpenters; and meat, and drink, and oil, unto them of Zidon, and to them of Tyre, to bring cedar trees from Lebanon to the sea of Joppa, according to the grant that they had of Cyrus king of Persia.
8 Now in the second year of their coming unto the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, began Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the remnant of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all they that were come out of the captivity unto Jerusalem; and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to set forward the work of the house of the Lord.

8 Now in the second month of the second year of their coming to the house of God at Jerusalem, (D)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, Jeshua the son of [a]Jozadak, and the rest of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all those who had come out of the captivity to Jerusalem, began work (E)and appointed the Levites from twenty years old and above to oversee the work of the house of the Lord.
