15 Y le dijo: ‘Toma estos utensilios, ve y colócalos en el templo que está en Jerusalén, y sea la casa de Dios reedificada en su lugar’. 16 Entonces aquel Sesbasar vino y puso los cimientos de la casa de Dios que está en Jerusalén(A); y desde entonces hasta ahora se sigue construyendo, pero aún no está terminada(B)”. 17 Ahora, si al rey le parece bien, que se busque en la casa del tesoro del rey(C) que está allí en Babilonia, a ver si es que fue proclamado un decreto de parte del rey Ciro para reedificar esta casa de Dios en Jerusalén; y que se nos envíe la decisión del rey en cuanto a este asunto».

15 And he said to him, ‘Take these articles; go, carry them to the temple site that is in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be rebuilt on its former site.’ 16 Then the same Sheshbazzar came and (A)laid the foundation of the house of God which is in Jerusalem; but from that time even until now it has been under construction, and (B)it is not finished.”

17 Now therefore, if it seems good to the king, (C)let a search be made in the king’s treasure house, which is there in Babylon, whether it is so that a decree was issued by King Cyrus to build this house of God at Jerusalem, and let the king send us his pleasure concerning this matter.

15 Kongen skulle have givet Sheshbatzar ordre til at returnere karrene til Jerusalem og genopbygge Guds tempel på dets gamle plads. 16 Derfor påstås det, at Sheshbatzar var den, der kom og lagde fundamentet til templet i Jerusalem. Lige siden da har folket arbejdet på genopbygningen, men det er dog endnu ikke færdigt.

17 Hvis det kan behage kongen, vil vi derfor anmode om, at man gennemsøger det kongelige bibliotek i Babylon for at finde ud af, om kong Kyros overhovedet har udstedt en sådan befaling. Vi vil så afvente kongens afgørelse i denne sag.
