Atout yo te pè lòt moun yo ki t'ap viv nan peyi a, yo rebati lotèl la menm kote li te ye anvan an. Epi yo tanmen boule bèt sou li pou Seyè a, chak maten ak chak aswè.

Pèp la pa t' ankò mete men nan tanp lan, men depi premye jou setyèm mwa a yo te konmanse ap boule bèt nèt pou Seyè a.

Pèp la bay lajan pou peye bòs ki t'ap taye wòch yo ak bòs chapant yo. Yo bay pwovizyon, bwason ak lwil pou yo voye lavil Tir ak lavil Sidon pou bwa sèd y'ap achte nan men moun la yo. Bwa yo te soti peyi Liban, yo pase sou lanmè, yo debake Jope. Yo fè tou sa dapre otorizasyon Siris, wa peyi Pès la, te ba yo.

¶ Te gen ennan yon mwa depi yo te rive lavil Jerizalèm sou anplasman tanp Seyè a, lè Zowobabèl, pitit gason Chealtyèl la, ak Jozye, pitit gason Jeozadak la, te mete men nan travay la ansanm ak rès moun pèp la, prèt yo ak moun Levi yo, avèk tout moun ki te tounen lavil Jerizalèm. Yo pran tout moun Levi ki te gen ventan osinon plis, yo mete yo anchaj pou dirije tout travay ki t'ap fèt nan tanp Seyè a.

Se konsa Jozye, pitit gason l' yo ak lòt fanmi li yo, ansanm ak Kadmyèl ak pitit gason l' yo, moun fanmi Jida, mete tèt yo ansanm, yo pran reskonsablite travay ki t'ap fèt nan tanp Bondye a.

10 Lè bòs mason yo te konmanse ak premye fondasyon tanp Seyè a, prèt yo avèk gwo rad yo sou yo, twonpèt yo nan men yo, vin pran plas yo ansanm ak moun Levi branch fanmi Asaf yo ak tanbouren yo nan men yo. Yo te fè lwanj Seyè a dapre regleman David, wa peyi Izrayèl la, te bay depi lontan.

11 Yo t'ap fè lwanj Seyè a, yo t'ap di l' mèsi, yo t'ap chante yonn apre lòt: Ala bon Seyè a bon! Li p'ap janm sispann renmen pèp Izrayèl la Tout pèp la t'ap rele byen fò. Yo t'ap fè lwanj Seyè a, paske yo t'ap mete men nan travay fondasyon tanp Seyè a.

Men, anpil lòt t'ap rele sitèlman yo te kontan.

13 Men, pesonn pa t' ka di kilès ki t'ap rele ak kè kontan, kilès ki t'ap plede kriye ak dlo nan je, paske tout pèp la t'ap rele ansanm byen fò. Moun te ka tande yo byen lwen.

Worship Restored at Jerusalem

And when the (A)seventh month had come, and the children of Israel were in the cities, the people gathered together as one man to Jerusalem. Then [a]Jeshua the son of (B)Jozadak[b] and his brethren the priests, (C)and Zerubbabel the son of (D)Shealtiel and his brethren, arose and built the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings on it, as it is (E)written in the Law of Moses the man of God. Though fear had come upon them because of the people of those countries, they set the altar on its [c]bases; and they offered (F)burnt offerings on it to the Lord, both the morning and evening burnt offerings. (G)They also kept the Feast of Tabernacles, (H)as it is written, and (I)offered the daily burnt offerings in the number required by ordinance for each day. Afterwards they offered the (J)regular burnt offering, and those for New Moons and for all the appointed feasts of the Lord that were consecrated, and those of everyone who willingly offered a freewill offering to the Lord. From the first day of the seventh month they began to offer burnt offerings to the Lord, although the foundation of the temple of the Lord had not been laid. They also gave money to the masons and the carpenters, and (K)food, drink, and oil to the people of Sidon and Tyre to bring cedar logs from Lebanon to the sea, to (L)Joppa, (M)according to the permission which they had from Cyrus king of Persia.

Restoration of the Temple Begins

Now in the second month of the second year of their coming to the house of God at Jerusalem, (N)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, Jeshua the son of [d]Jozadak, and the rest of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all those who had come out of the captivity to Jerusalem, began work (O)and appointed the Levites from twenty years old and above to oversee the work of the house of the Lord. Then Jeshua with his sons and brothers, Kadmiel with his sons, and the sons of [e]Judah, arose as one to oversee those working on the house of God: the sons of Henadad with their sons and their brethren the Levites.

10 When the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the Lord, (P)the[f] priests stood in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites, the sons of Asaph, with cymbals, to praise the Lord, according to the (Q)ordinance[g] of David king of Israel. 11 (R)And they sang responsively, praising and giving thanks to the Lord:

(S)“For He is good,
(T)For His mercy endures forever toward Israel.”

Then all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid.

12 But many of the priests and Levites and (U)heads of the fathers’ houses, old men who had seen the first temple, wept with a loud voice when the foundation of this temple was laid before their eyes. Yet many shouted aloud for joy, 13 so that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people, for the people shouted with a loud shout, and the sound was heard afar off.

Worship at the Temple Site Begins Again

When the seventh month came, the people gathered together in Jerusalem. (The Israelites had already settled in their cities.) Then Jozadak’s son Jeshua and his relatives who were priests and Shealtiel’s son Zerubbabel and his relatives built an altar for the Elohim of Israel. They built it in order to sacrifice burnt offerings. They followed the directions written in Moses’ Teachings. (Moses was a man of Elohim). So they rebuilt the altar on its original site, though they were afraid of the people in the neighboring regions. They sacrificed burnt offerings on it to Yahweh every morning and evening.

Following the written directions, they celebrated the Festival of Booths. Each day they sacrificed the required number of burnt offerings. After that, they sacrificed the daily burnt offerings, the offerings for the New Moon Festival and all the other holy festivals of Yahweh, and all the freewill offerings brought to Yahweh. They started to bring these burnt offerings to Yahweh on the first day of the seventh month, even though the foundation of Yahweh’s temple had not yet been laid.

Work on the Temple Begins

So they gave money to the stonecutters and carpenters. Then they gave food, drink, and olive oil to the men from Sidon and Tyre in exchange for cedar, which the men would bring by sea from Lebanon to Joppa as King Cyrus of Persia had authorized them to do.

Zerubbabel (who was Shealtiel’s son), Jeshua (who was Jozadak’s son), and the rest of the Jews, (the priests, Levites, and all the others who had come back from exile to Jerusalem) began to rebuild the temple. This happened in the second month of the second year following their return to the site of Elohim’s house in Jerusalem. They began by appointing the Levites who were at least 20 years old to direct the work on Yahweh’s house. Then Jeshua with his sons and relatives and Kadmiel with his sons who were Judah’s descendants joined Henadad’s family and their sons and relatives, the Levites, in directing those working on Elohim’s house.

A Celebration After the Laying of the Temple’s Foundation

10 The builders laid the foundation of Yahweh’s temple. Then the priests who were dressed in their robes took their places with trumpets, and the Levites who were Asaph’s descendants took their places with cymbals to praise Yahweh according to the instructions of King David of Israel. 11 As they praised and gave thanks to Yahweh, they sang antiphonally:

“He is good; his mercy toward Israel endures forever.”

Then all the people shouted, “Praise Yahweh,” because the foundation for the house of Yahweh had been laid.

12 But many of the priests, Levites, and the heads of the families who were old enough to have seen the first temple with their own eyes began to sob when they saw the foundation of this temple. Many others shouted for joy. 13 No one could distinguish between the joyful shouts and the loud sobbing because the people were shouting so loudly. The noise was heard from far away.
