2 1-2 El rey Nabucodonosor se había llevado cautivos a Babilonia a muchos judíos. Los que volvieron de allá fueron los hijos de esos cautivos. Varios líderes regresaron a Jerusalén y a las ciudades de Judá, bajo el mando de Zorobabel. Ésta es la lista de los líderes que regresaron:

61-62 De las familias sacerdotales llegaron las de Hobaías, Cos y Barzilai. Este último se llamaba así porque se había casado con una de las hijas de Barzilai de Galaad y se había puesto el nombre de su suegro. Ellos buscaron sus nombres en el registro de las familias, pero no estaban, así que no pudieron comprobar que eran judíos; por eso no les permitieron ser sacerdotes. 63 El gobernador no les permitió comer de los alimentos ofrecidos a Dios mientras un sacerdote no consultara el Urim y el Tumim,[a] las dos piedritas usadas para conocer la voluntad de Dios.
64 En total se habían reunido cuarenta y dos mil trescientas sesenta personas, 65 además de sus esclavos y esclavas, que sumaban siete mil trescientos treinta y siete. También había doscientos cantores y cantoras. 66-67 También traían los siguientes animales: setecientos treinta y seis caballos, doscientas cuarenta y cinco mulas, cuatrocientos treinta y cinco camellos y seis mil setecientos veinte burros.
68 Algunos jefes de familia llevaron a Jerusalén donaciones para reconstruir el templo de Dios. 69 En total entregaron cuatrocientos ochenta y ocho kilos de oro, dos mil setecientos cincuenta kilos de plata y cien túnicas para sacerdotes, que fue cuanto pudieron dar.
70 Los sacerdotes, sus ayudantes y algunos otros judíos se quedaron a vivir en Jerusalén, pero los cantores, los guardianes y los sirvientes del templo, y los demás judíos se fueron a vivir a sus propios pueblos.

2 Those who came with Zerubbabel were Jeshua, Nehemiah, [a]Seraiah, [b]Reelaiah, Mordecai, Bilshan, [c]Mispar, Bigvai, [d]Rehum, and Baanah. 59 And these were the ones who came up from Tel Melah, Tel Harsha, Cherub, [p]Addan, and Immer; but they could not [q]identify their father’s house or their [r]genealogy, whether they were of Israel: 60 the sons of Delaiah, the sons of Tobiah, and the sons of Nekoda, six hundred and fifty-two; 61 and of the sons of the priests: the sons of (P)Habaiah, the sons of [s]Koz, and the sons of (Q)Barzillai, who took a wife of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite, and was called by their name. 62 These sought their listing among those who were registered by genealogy, but they were not found; (R)therefore they were excluded from the priesthood as defiled. 63 And the [t]governor said to them that they (S)should not eat of the most holy things till a priest could consult with the (T)Urim and Thummim.
64 (U)The whole assembly together was forty-two thousand three hundred and sixty, 65 besides their male and female servants, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred and thirty-seven; and they had two hundred men and women singers. 66 Their horses were seven hundred and thirty-six, their mules two hundred and forty-five, 67 their camels four hundred and thirty-five, and their donkeys six thousand seven hundred and twenty.
68 (V)Some of the heads of the fathers’ houses, when they came to the house of the Lord which is in Jerusalem, offered freely for the house of God, to erect it in its place: 69 According to their ability, they gave to the (W)treasury for the work sixty-one thousand gold drachmas, five thousand minas of silver, and one hundred priestly garments.
70 (X)So the priests and the Levites, some of the people, the singers, the gatekeepers, and the Nethinim, dwelt in their cities, and all Israel in their cities.

64 The whole company numbered 42,360, 65 besides their 7,337 male and female slaves; and they also had 200 male and female singers.(AC) 66 They had 736 horses,(AD) 245 mules, 67 435 camels and 6,720 donkeys.
68 When they arrived at the house of the Lord in Jerusalem, some of the heads of the families(AE) gave freewill offerings toward the rebuilding of the house of God on its site. 69 According to their ability they gave to the treasury for this work 61,000 darics[b] of gold, 5,000 minas[c] of silver and 100 priestly garments.
70 The priests, the Levites, the musicians, the gatekeepers and the temple servants settled in their own towns, along with some of the other people, and the rest of the Israelites settled in their towns.(AF)
