3 And when the seventh month was come, and the children of Israel were in the cities, the people gathered themselves together as one man to Jerusalem.
2 Then stood up Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and his brethren, and builded the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings thereon, as it is written in the law of Moses the man of God.
3 And they set the altar upon his bases; for fear was upon them because of the people of those countries: and they offered burnt offerings thereon unto the Lord, even burnt offerings morning and evening.
4 They kept also the feast of tabernacles, as it is written, and offered the daily burnt offerings by number, according to the custom, as the duty of every day required;
5 And afterward offered the continual burnt offering, both of the new moons, and of all the set feasts of the Lord that were consecrated, and of every one that willingly offered a freewill offering unto the Lord.
6 From the first day of the seventh month began they to offer burnt offerings unto the Lord. But the foundation of the temple of the Lord was not yet laid.
7 They gave money also unto the masons, and to the carpenters; and meat, and drink, and oil, unto them of Zidon, and to them of Tyre, to bring cedar trees from Lebanon to the sea of Joppa, according to the grant that they had of Cyrus king of Persia.
8 Now in the second year of their coming unto the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, began Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the remnant of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all they that were come out of the captivity unto Jerusalem; and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to set forward the work of the house of the Lord.
9 Then stood Jeshua with his sons and his brethren, Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah, together, to set forward the workmen in the house of God: the sons of Henadad, with their sons and their brethren the Levites.
10 And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the Lord, they set the priests in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals, to praise the Lord, after the ordinance of David king of Israel.
11 And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the Lord; because he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid.
12 But many of the priests and Levites and chief of the fathers, who were ancient men, that had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice; and many shouted aloud for joy:
13 So that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people: for the people shouted with a loud shout, and the noise was heard afar off.

Obnova žrtvenika
3 Kad je došao sedmi mjesec[a], Izraelci su se već smjestili po svojim gradovima. Potom se sav narod u jedinstvu okupio u Jeruzalemu. 2 Ješua, Josadakov sin, zajedno s drugim svećenicima, i Zerubabel, Šealtielov sin, zajedno sa svojim rođacima, počeli su graditi žrtvenik Izraelovom Bogu da bi na njemu prinosili žrtve paljenice. Radili su kao što piše u Zakonu Mojsija, Božjeg čovjeka. 3 Iako su se bojali drugih naroda, koji su živjeli s njima na tom području, izgradili su žrtvenik na njegovim prijašnjim temeljima. Na njemu su ujutro i navečer prinosili BOGU žrtve paljenice. 4 U skladu s odredbom u Mojsijevom zakonu, slavili su Blagdan skloništa. Prinosili su propisani broj paljenica za svaki dan blagdana. 5 Zatim su svakog dana prinosili stalne žrtve paljenice pa žrtve određene za Blagdan mladog mjeseca i za sve svete BOŽJE blagdane, kao i one koje se BOGU prinose prema želji. 6 Od prvoga dana sedmog mjeseca BOGU su prinosili žrtve paljenice iako temelji BOŽJEGA Hrama još nisu bili obnovljeni.
Početak obnove Hrama
7 Zatim su klesarima i tesarima dali novac za njihov rad, a Sidoncima i Tircima su dali hranu, piće i ulje, da im od Libanona do luke Jafa, morem, dovezu cedrova debla. Za to su imali odobrenje perzijskoga kralja Kira.
8 Drugoga mjeseca, druge godine nakon dolaska u Božji Hram u Jeruzalemu, Zerubabel, Šealtielov sin, i Ješua, Josadakov sin, započeli su radove. Njihovi su sunarodnjaci radili s njima—svećenici, Leviti i svi koji su se iz zatočeništva vratili u Jeruzalem. Za nadzornike izgradnje BOŽJEGA Hrama odredili su Levite koji su bili stariji od dvadeset godina. 9 Nadzornici radova na Božjem Hramu bili su: Ješua sa svojim sinovima, i braćom—Kadmielom, Binujem i Hodavijom, a radnici su bili Leviti iz Henadadove obitelji.
10 Kad su graditelji položili temelje BOŽJEGA Hrama, svećenici su odjenuli odore i uzeli trube, a Leviti, Asafovi potomci, cimbala. Stali su na svoja mjesta da bi slavili BOGA, kao što je bio propisao Izraelov kralj David. 11 Naizmjence su slavili BOGA i zahvaljivali mu, svaka grupa pjevajući svoj dio. Pjevali su:
»BOG je dobar!
Njegova vjerna ljubav
vječna je prema Izraelu!«
I sav je narod glasno vikao slaveći BOGA jer su bili položeni temelji BOŽJEGA Hrama.
12 Mnogi od starijih svećenika, Levita i glavara obitelji, koji su se sjećali prijašnjega Hrama, glasno su zaplakali vidjevši temelje ovoga Hrama, dok su drugi klicali od radosti. 13 I nije se mogao razlikovati zvuk radosnog klicanja od zvuka plača. Svi su bili glasni i daleko ih se čulo.

Rebuilding the Altar
3 When the seventh month came and the Israelites had settled in their towns,(A) the people assembled(B) together as one in Jerusalem. 2 Then Joshua(C) son of Jozadak(D) and his fellow priests and Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel(E) and his associates began to build the altar of the God of Israel to sacrifice burnt offerings on it, in accordance with what is written in the Law of Moses(F) the man of God. 3 Despite their fear(G) of the peoples around them, they built the altar on its foundation and sacrificed burnt offerings on it to the Lord, both the morning and evening sacrifices.(H) 4 Then in accordance with what is written, they celebrated the Festival of Tabernacles(I) with the required number of burnt offerings prescribed for each day. 5 After that, they presented the regular burnt offerings, the New Moon(J) sacrifices and the sacrifices for all the appointed sacred festivals of the Lord,(K) as well as those brought as freewill offerings to the Lord. 6 On the first day of the seventh month they began to offer burnt offerings to the Lord, though the foundation of the Lord’s temple had not yet been laid.
Rebuilding the Temple
7 Then they gave money to the masons and carpenters,(L) and gave food and drink and olive oil to the people of Sidon and Tyre, so that they would bring cedar logs(M) by sea from Lebanon(N) to Joppa, as authorized by Cyrus(O) king of Persia.
8 In the second month(P) of the second year after their arrival at the house of God in Jerusalem, Zerubbabel(Q) son of Shealtiel, Joshua son of Jozadak and the rest of the people (the priests and the Levites and all who had returned from the captivity to Jerusalem) began the work. They appointed Levites twenty(R) years old and older to supervise the building of the house of the Lord. 9 Joshua(S) and his sons and brothers and Kadmiel and his sons (descendants of Hodaviah[a]) and the sons of Henadad and their sons and brothers—all Levites—joined together in supervising those working on the house of God.
10 When the builders laid(T) the foundation of the temple of the Lord, the priests in their vestments and with trumpets,(U) and the Levites (the sons of Asaph) with cymbals, took their places to praise(V) the Lord, as prescribed by David(W) king of Israel.(X) 11 With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the Lord:
“He is good;
his love toward Israel endures forever.”(Y)
And all the people gave a great shout(Z) of praise to the Lord, because the foundation(AA) of the house of the Lord was laid. 12 But many of the older priests and Levites and family heads, who had seen the former temple,(AB) wept(AC) aloud when they saw the foundation of this temple being laid, while many others shouted for joy. 13 No one could distinguish the sound of the shouts of joy(AD) from the sound of weeping, because the people made so much noise. And the sound was heard far away.

They (R)appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to (S)supervise the work of the house of the Lord. 9 And (T)Jeshua with his sons and his brothers, and Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah, together (U)supervised the workmen in the house of God, along with the (V)sons of Henadad and the Levites, their sons and brothers.
10 And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the Lord, the priests in their vestments came forward with trumpets, and the Levites, the sons of Asaph, with cymbals, to praise the Lord, (W)according to the directions of David king of Israel. 11 And they sang responsively, praising and giving thanks to the Lord,
(X)“For he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever toward Israel.”
And all the people shouted with a great shout when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid. 12 But many of the priests and Levites and heads of fathers' houses, (Y)old men who had seen the first house, wept with a loud voice when they saw the foundation of this house being laid, though many shouted aloud for joy, 13 so that the people could not distinguish the sound of the joyful shout from the sound of the people's weeping, for the people shouted with a great shout, and the sound was heard far away.
