³ But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality,^(A) or of any kind of impurity, or of greed,^(B) because these are improper for God’s holy people. ⁴ Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk^(C) or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.^{(D) 5} For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater^(E)—has any inheritance^(F) in the kingdom of Christ and of God.^{[a](G) 6} Let no one deceive you^(H) with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath^(I) comes on those who are disobedient.^{(J) 7} Therefore do not be partners with them.

⁸ For you were once^(K) darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light^{(L) 9} (for the fruit^(M) of the light consists in all goodness,^(N) righteousness and truth) ¹⁰ and find out what pleases the Lord.^{(O) 11} Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness,^(P) but rather expose them. ¹² It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.

¹⁵ Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself?^(A) Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! ¹⁶ Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.”^{[a](B) 17} But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit.^[b](C)

¹⁸ Flee from sexual immorality.^(D) All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.^{(E) 19} Do you not know that your bodies are temples^(F) of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;^{(G) 20} you were bought at a price.^(H) Therefore honor God with your bodies.^(I)

Concerning Married Life

7 Now for the matters you wrote about: “It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.”^{(J) 2} But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband. ³ The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife,^(K) and likewise the wife to her husband.
