Light versus Darkness
6 Let no one deceive you with empty arguments, for God’s wrath(A) is coming on the disobedient[a] because of these things. 7 Therefore, do not become their partners. 8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light(B) in the Lord. Walk as children of light(C)— 9 for the fruit of the light[b] consists of all goodness, righteousness, and truth(D)— 10 testing(E) what is pleasing(F) to the Lord. 11 Don’t participate in the fruitless(G) works of darkness, but instead expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to mention what is done by them in secret. 13 Everything exposed by the light is made visible,(H) 14 for what makes everything visible is light. Fellowship with God
5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light,(A) and there is absolutely no darkness in him.(B) 6 If we say, “We have fellowship(C) with him,” and yet we walk in darkness,(D) we are lying and are not practicing the truth.(E) 7 If we walk in the light(F) as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus(G) his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say, “We have no sin,”(H) we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive(I) us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say, “We have not sinned,” we make him a liar, and his word(J) is not in us.(K)
