¹⁸ Do not get drunk on wine,^(A) which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit,^{(B) 19} speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit.^(C) Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord,

¹⁶ Let the message of Christ^(A) dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom^(B) through psalms,^(C) hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.^(D)

²³ After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer^(A) was commanded to guard them carefully. ²⁴ When he received these orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.^(B)

¹² So it is with you. Since you are eager for gifts of the Spirit,^(A) try to excel in those that build up^(B) the church.

¹³ For this reason the one who speaks in a tongue should pray that they may interpret what they say.^{(C) 14} For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays,^(D) but my mind is unfruitful. ¹⁵ So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit,^(E) but I will also pray with my understanding; I will sing^(F) with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding.
