¹⁸ Do not get drunk on wine,^(A) which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit,^(B)

¹⁵ for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink,^(A) and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit^(B) even before he is born.^(C)

²¹ and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like.^(A) I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.^(B)

²² But the fruit^(C) of the Spirit is love,^(D) joy, peace,^(E) forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, ²³ gentleness and self-control.^(F) Against such things there is no law.^{(G) 24} Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh^(H) with its passions and desires.^{(I) 25} Since we live by the Spirit,^(J) let us keep in step with the Spirit.

¹¹ But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister^[a](A) but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater^(B) or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people.^(C)

¹³ Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness,^(A) not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.^(B)

⁷ For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.^(A)

²⁴ He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit^(A) and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord.^(B)
