¹² to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ^(A) may be built up^(B)

¹¹ Therefore encourage one another^(A) and build each other up,^(B) just as in fact you are doing.

Final Instructions

¹² Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard^(C) among you, who care for you in the Lord^(D) and who admonish you. ¹³ Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other.^{(E) 14} And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle^(F) and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak,^(G) be patient with everyone.

¹⁶ From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows^(A) and builds itself up^(B) in love,^(C) as each part does its work.

²⁷ Now you are the body of Christ,^(A) and each one of you is a part of it.^(B)

⁴ Anyone who speaks in a tongue^(A) edifies^(B) themselves, but the one who prophesies^(C) edifies the church. ⁵ I would like every one of you to speak in tongues,^[a] but I would rather have you prophesy.^(D) The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues,^[b] unless someone interprets, so that the church may be edified.^(E)

Good Order in Worship

²⁶ What then shall we say, brothers and sisters?^(A) When you come together, each of you^(B) has a hymn,^(C) or a word of instruction,^(D) a revelation, a tongue^(E) or an interpretation.^(F) Everything must be done so that the church may be built up.^(G)

¹⁴ I myself am convinced, my brothers and sisters, that you yourselves are full of goodness,^(A) filled with knowledge^(B) and competent to instruct one another.

¹⁹ Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace^(A) and to mutual edification.^(B)

¹² So it is with you. Since you are eager for gifts of the Spirit,^(A) try to excel in those that build up^(B) the church.
