⁷ so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable ^(A)riches of his grace in ^(B)kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. ⁸ For ^(C)by grace you have been saved ^(D)through faith. And this is ^(E)not your own doing; ^(F)it is the gift of God, ^9 (G)not a result of works, ^(H)so that no one may boast. ¹⁰ For ^(I)we are his workmanship, ^(J)created in Christ Jesus ^(K)for good works, ^(L)which God prepared beforehand, ^(M)that we should walk in them.

²⁹ But a Jew is one ^(A)inwardly, and ^(B)circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter. ^(C)His praise is not from man but from God.

²⁰ For ^(A)by works of the law no human being^[a] will be justified in his sight, since ^(B)through the law comes knowledge of sin.

³¹ Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law.

Faith Without Works Is Dead

¹⁴ What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith ^(A)but does not have works? Can that faith save him? ^15 (B)If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, ^16 (C)and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good^[a] is that? ¹⁷ So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
