For this you know with certainty, that (A)no sexually immoral or [a]impure or greedy person, which [b]amounts to an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom (B)of Christ and God.

(C)See that no one deceives you with empty words, for because of these things (D)the wrath of God comes upon (E)the [c]sons of disobedience. Therefore do not become (F)partners with them; for (G)you were once (H)darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as (I)children of light (for (J)the fruit of the light consists in all (K)goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 [d](L)as you try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. 11 (M)Do not participate in the useless (N)deeds of (O)darkness, but instead even (P)expose them; 12 for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret. 13 But all things become visible (Q)when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light. 14 For this reason [e]it says,

(R)Awake, sleeper,
And arise from (S)the dead,
And Christ (T)will shine on you.”

15 So then, [f]be careful how you (U)walk, not (V)as unwise people but as wise, 16 [g](W)making the most of your time, because (X)the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but (Y)understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And (Z)do not get drunk with wine, [h]in which there is (AA)debauchery, but be (AB)filled with the Spirit, 19 (AC)speaking to [i]one another in (AD)psalms and (AE)hymns and spiritual (AF)songs, (AG)singing and making melody with your hearts to the Lord; 20 (AH)always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to our (AI)God and Father;

For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater(A)—has any inheritance(B) in the kingdom of Christ and of God.[a](C) Let no one deceive you(D) with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath(E) comes on those who are disobedient.(F) Therefore do not be partners with them.

For you were once(G) darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light(H) (for the fruit(I) of the light consists in all goodness,(J) righteousness and truth) 10 and find out what pleases the Lord.(K) 11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness,(L) but rather expose them. 12 It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. 13 But everything exposed by the light(M) becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. 14 This is why it is said:

“Wake up, sleeper,(N)
    rise from the dead,(O)
    and Christ will shine on you.”(P)

15 Be very careful, then, how you live(Q)—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity,(R) because the days are evil.(S) 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.(T) 18 Do not get drunk on wine,(U) which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit,(V) 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit.(W) Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks(X) to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
