16 making the most of every opportunity,(A) because the days are evil.(B) 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.(C) 18 Do not get drunk on wine,(D) which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit,(E) 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit.(F) Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks(G) to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Instructions for Christian Households(H)

21 Submit to one another(I) out of reverence for Christ.

22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands(J) as you do to the Lord.(K) 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church,(L) his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands(M) in everything.

25 Husbands, love your wives,(N) just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her(O) 26 to make her holy,(P) cleansing[a] her by the washing(Q) with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself(R) as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.(S) 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives(T) as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— 30 for we are members of his body.(U) 31 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”[b](V) 32 This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. 33 However, each one of you also must love his wife(W) as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.(X) “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”[c](Y)

Fathers,[d] do not exasperate your children;(Z) instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.(AA)

16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:

30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.

32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;

That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

16 (A)redeeming the time, (B)because the days are evil.

17 (C)Therefore do not be unwise, but (D)understand (E)what the will of the Lord is. 18 And (F)do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another (G)in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making (H)melody in your heart to the Lord, 20 (I)giving thanks always for all things to God the Father (J)in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 (K)submitting to one another in the fear of [a]God.

Marriage—Christ and the Church(L)

22 Wives, (M)submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For (N)the husband is head of the wife, as also (O)Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. 24 Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands (P)in everything.

25 (Q)Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and (R)gave Himself for her, 26 that He might [b]sanctify and cleanse her (S)with the washing of water (T)by the word, 27 (U)that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, (V)not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. 28 So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. 30 For (W)we are members of His body, [c]of His flesh and of His bones. 31 (X)“For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the (Y)two shall become one flesh.” 32 This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless (Z)let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she (AA)respects her husband.

Children and Parents(AB)

Children, (AC)obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. (AD)“Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”

And (AE)you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but (AF)bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.
