5 ^(A)Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children;

5 ¹Follow God’s example,^(A) therefore, as dearly loved children^(B)

⁴and there must be no ^(A)filthiness ^[a]or foolish talk, or vulgar joking, which ^(B)are not fitting, but rather ^(C)giving of thanks.

⁴Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk^(A) or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.^(B)
