⁸ For ^(A)by grace you have been saved ^(B)through faith; and ^[a]this is not of yourselves, it is ^(C)the gift of God; ^9 (D)not a result of works, so that ^(E)no one may boast.

² looking only at Jesus, the ^[a](A)originator and perfecter of the faith, who for the joy set before Him ^(B)endured the cross, ^(C)despising the shame, and has ^(D)sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

⁹ Or what person is there among you ^[a]who, when his son asks for a loaf of bread, ^[b]will give him a stone? ¹⁰ Or ^[c]if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? ¹¹ So if you, despite being ^[d]evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, ^(A)how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

This Is Written That You May Know

^13 (A)These things I have written to you who ^(B)believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have ^(C)eternal life. ¹⁴ This is ^(D)the confidence which we have ^[a]before Him, that, ^(E)if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. ¹⁵ And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, ^(F)we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.
