²³ For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church,^(A) his body, of which he is the Savior.

³ But I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ,^(A) and the head of the woman is man,^[a](B) and the head of Christ is God.^{(C) 4} Every man who prays or prophesies^(D) with his head covered dishonors his head. ⁵ But every woman who prays or prophesies^(E) with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is the same as having her head shaved.^{(F) 6} For if a woman does not cover her head, she might as well have her hair cut off; but if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, then she should cover her head.

⁷ A man ought not to cover his head,^[b] since he is the image^(G) and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. ⁸ For man did not come from woman, but woman from man;^{(H) 9} neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.^{(I) 10} It is for this reason that a woman ought to have authority over her own^[c] head, because of the angels.

¹⁸ And he is the head^(A) of the body, the church;^(B) he is the beginning and the firstborn^(C) from among the dead,^(D) so that in everything he might have the supremacy.

¹⁵ Instead, speaking the truth in love,^(A) we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head,^(B) that is, Christ.

²² And God placed all things under his feet^(A) and appointed him to be head^(B) over everything for the church, ²³ which is his body,^(C) the fullness of him^(D) who fills everything in every way.^(E)

²⁵ Husbands, love your wives,^(A) just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her^{(B) 26} to make her holy,^(C) cleansing^[a] her by the washing^(D) with water through the word,

¹⁰ and to wait for his Son from heaven,^(A) whom he raised from the dead^(B)—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.^(C)

⁹ And they sang a new song, saying:^(A)

¹³ You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.”^(A) The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord,^(B) and the Lord for the body.
