⁴ there is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling,^(A)

¹⁸ for through him both of us have access in one Spirit to the Father.^(A)

⁴ Now there are varieties of gifts but the same Spirit,^{(A) 5} and there are varieties of services but the same Lord,^{(B) 6} and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. ⁷ To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.^{(C) 8} To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit,^{(D) 9} to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,^{(E) 10} to another the working of powerful deeds, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.^{(F) 11} All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses.^(G)

One Body with Many Members

¹² For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.^{(H) 13} For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.^(I)

⁴ For as in one body we have many members and not all the members have the same function,^{(A) 5} so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another.

¹⁶ and might reconcile both to God in one body^[a] through the cross, thus putting to death that hostility through it.^[b](A)

Unity in the Body of Christ

4 I, therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beg you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called,^(A)

¹⁸ so that through two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible that God would prove false, we who have taken refuge might be strongly encouraged to seize the hope set before us.^{(A) 19} We have this hope, a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters the inner shrine behind the curtain,^(B)

² in the hope of eternal life that God, who never lies, promised before the ages began^(A)—

⁵ because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. You have heard of this hope before in the word of the truth, the gospel^(A)

³⁰ because we are members of his body.^[a](A)
