²⁸ Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather ^(A)let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something ^(B)to give him who has need.

¹¹ that you also aspire to lead a quiet life, ^(A)to mind your own business, and ^(B)to work with your own hands, as we commanded you, ^12 (C)that you may walk properly toward those who are outside, and that you may lack nothing.

¹⁸ Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share,

^10 (A)Therefore, as we have opportunity, ^(B)let us do good to all, ^(C)especially to those who are of the household of faith.

¹¹ For we hear that there are some who walk among you in a disorderly manner, not working at all, but are ^(A)busybodies. ¹² Now those who are such we command and ^[a]exhort through our Lord Jesus Christ ^(B)that they work in quietness and eat their own bread.

The Widow’s Two Mites^(A)

21 And He looked up ^(B)and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, ² and He saw also a certain ^(C)poor widow putting in two ^(D)mites.^{[a] 3} So He said, “Truly I say to you ^(E)that this poor widow has put in more than all; ⁴ for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings ^[b]for God, but she out of her poverty put in ^(F)all the livelihood that she had.”

Warning Against Idleness

⁶ But we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, ^(A)that you withdraw ^(B)from every brother who walks ^(C)disorderly and not according to the tradition which ^[a]he received from us. ⁷ For you yourselves know how you ought to follow us, for we were not disorderly among you; ⁸ nor did we eat anyone’s bread ^[b]free of charge, but worked with ^(D)labor and toil night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you,

¹⁰ So the people asked him, saying, ^(A)“What shall we do then?”

¹¹ He answered and said to them, ^(B)“He who has two tunics, let him give to him who has none; and he who has food, ^(C)let him do likewise.”

¹² Then ^(D)tax collectors also came to be baptized, and said to him, “Teacher, what shall we do?”

¹³ And he said to them, ^(E)“Collect no more than what is appointed for you.”

¹⁴ Likewise the soldiers asked him, saying, “And what shall we do?”

So he said to them, “Do not ^[a]intimidate anyone ^(F)or accuse falsely, and be content with your wages.”
