²¹ For surely you have heard about him and were taught in him, as truth is in Jesus,

²⁰ And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we may know him who is true;^[a] and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.^(A)

¹³ In him you also, when you had heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and had believed in him, were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit;^(A)

Warning against Unbelief

⁷ Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says,

¹⁰ Those who believe in the Son of God have the testimony in their hearts. Those who do not believe in God^[a] have made him a liar by not believing in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son.^{(A) 11} And this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. ¹² Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.^(B)

⁷ rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.^(A)

¹⁷ This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him because he abides with you, and he will be^[a] in^[b] you.^(A)

¹⁰ As the truth of Christ is in me, this boast of mine will not be silenced in the regions of Achaia.^(A)

²⁰ For in him every one of God’s promises is a “Yes.” For this reason it is through him that we say the “Amen,” to the glory of God.^(A)

⁶ Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.^(A)
