²² And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.^(A)

The Living Stone and a Chosen People

⁴ As you come to him, the living Stone^(A)—rejected by humans but chosen by God^(B) and precious to him— ⁵ you also, like living stones, are being built^(C) into a spiritual house^[a](D) to be a holy priesthood,^(E) offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.^(F)

¹⁶ Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple^(A) and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?^(B)

¹⁶ And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.

God is love.^(A) Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.^(B)

¹³ This is how we know^(A) that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit.^(B)

¹⁶ What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols?^(A) For we are the temple^(B) of the living God.^(C) As God has said:

⁹ You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh^(A) but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you.^(B) And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ,^(C) they do not belong to Christ. ¹⁰ But if Christ is in you,^(D) then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life^[a] because of righteousness. ¹¹ And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead^(E) is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies^(F) because of^[b] his Spirit who lives in you.

¹⁷ the Spirit of truth.^(A) The world cannot accept him,^(B) because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be^[a] in you. ¹⁸ I will not leave you as orphans;^(C) I will come to you.^{(D) 19} Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me.^(E) Because I live, you also will live.^{(F) 20} On that day^(G) you will realize that I am in my Father,^(H) and you are in me, and I am in you.^{(I) 21} Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me.^(J) The one who loves me will be loved by my Father,^(K) and I too will love them and show myself to them.”

²² Then Judas^(L) (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?”^(M)

²³ Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching.^(N) My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.^(O)
