²⁰ God^[a] put this power to work in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places,^[b](A)

Assurance of Victory for God’s Priest-King

³ He is the reflection of God’s glory and the exact imprint of God’s very being, and he sustains^[a] all things by his powerful word. When he had made purification for^[b] sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,^(A)

¹⁰ I want to know Christ^[a] and the power of his resurrection and the sharing of his sufferings by becoming like him in his death,

²⁴ But God raised him up, having released him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for him to be held in its power.^{(A) 25} For David says concerning him,

²⁹ “Fellow Israelites,^[a] I may say to you confidently of our ancestor David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.^{(D) 30} Since he was a prophet, he knew that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would put one of his descendants on his throne.^{(E) 31} Foreseeing this, David^[b] spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah,^[c] saying,

³² “This Jesus God raised up, and of that all of us are witnesses.^{(G) 33} Being therefore exalted at^[d] the right hand of God and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you see and hear.^{(H) 34} For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says,

³⁶ “Therefore let the entire house of Israel know with certainty that God has made him both Lord and Messiah,^[e] this Jesus whom you crucified.”

Jesus Prays for His Disciples

17 After Jesus had spoken these words, he looked up to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son so that the Son may glorify you,^{(A) 2} since you have given him authority over all people,^[a] to give eternal life to all whom you have given him.^{(B) 3} And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.^{(C) 4} I glorified you on earth by finishing the work that you gave me to do.^{(D) 5} So now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had in your presence before the world existed.^(E)

¹⁸ And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.^(A)
