16 Then I said:

“Wisdom is better than (A)strength.
Nevertheless (B)the poor man’s wisdom is despised,
And his words are not heard.

And when the Sabbath had come, He began to teach in the synagogue. And many hearing Him were (A)astonished, saying, (B)“Where did this Man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that such mighty works are performed by His hands! Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and (C)brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?” So they (D)were offended at Him.

For if there should come into your assembly a man with gold rings, in [a]fine apparel, and there should also come in a poor man in [b]filthy clothes, and you [c]pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say to him, “You sit here in a good place,” and say to the poor man, “You stand there,” or, “Sit here at my footstool,” have you not [d]shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?

Listen, my beloved brethren: (A)Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be (B)rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom (C)which He promised to those who love Him? But (D)you have dishonored the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you (E)and drag you into the courts?

Glory Only in the Lord

26 For [a]you see your calling, brethren, (A)that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many [b]noble, are called. 27 But (B)God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; 28 and the [c]base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, 29 that no flesh should glory in His presence.

24 So they again called the man who was blind, and said to him, (A)“Give God the glory! (B)We know that this Man is a sinner.”

25 He answered and said, “Whether He is a sinner or not I do not know. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see.”

26 Then they said to him again, “What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?”

27 He answered them, “I told you already, and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become His disciples?”

28 Then they reviled him and said, “You are His disciple, but we are Moses’ disciples. 29 We know that God (C)spoke to (D)Moses; as for this fellow, (E)we do not know where He is from.”

30 The man answered and said to them, (F)“Why, this is a marvelous thing, that you do not know where He is from; yet He has opened my eyes! 31 Now we know that (G)God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him. 32 Since the world began it has been unheard of that anyone opened the eyes of one who was born blind. 33 (H)If this Man were not from God, He could do nothing.”

34 They answered and said to him, (I)“You were completely born in sins, and are you teaching us?” And they [a]cast him out.
