¹⁰ I have seen wicked people buried with honor. Yet they were the very ones who frequented the Temple and are now praised^[a] in the same city where they committed their crimes! This, too, is meaningless.

⁵ The living at least know they will die, but the dead know nothing. They have no further reward, nor are they remembered.

¹⁶ For the wise and the foolish both die. The wise will not be remembered any longer than the fool. In the days to come, both will be forgotten.

¹³ The lying witnesses said, “This man is always speaking against the holy Temple and against the law of Moses.

²² “Finally, the poor man died and was carried by the angels to sit beside Abraham at the heavenly banquet.^[a] The rich man also died and was buried,
