¹³ Even in laughter the heart may sorrow,
And ^(A)the end of mirth may be grief.

^5 (C)It is better to ^[c]hear the rebuke of the wise
Than for a man to hear the song of fools.
^6 (D)For like the ^[d]crackling of thorns under a pot,
So is the laughter of the fool.
This also is vanity.

³ Woe to you who ^(A)put far off the day of ^(B)doom,
^(C)Who cause ^(D)the seat of violence to come near;
⁴ Who lie on beds of ivory,
Stretch out on your couches,
Eat lambs from the flock
And calves from the midst of the stall;
^5 (E)Who sing idly to the sound of stringed instruments,
And invent for yourselves ^(F)musical instruments ^(G)like David;
⁶ Who ^(H)drink wine from bowls,
And anoint yourselves with the best ointments,
^(I)But are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

¹² And in that day the Lord God of hosts
^(A)Called for weeping and for mourning,
^(B)For baldness and for girding with sackcloth.
¹³ But instead, joy and gladness,
Slaying oxen and killing sheep,
Eating meat and ^(C)drinking wine:
^(D)“Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!”
