¹⁵ Then I said to myself,

¹⁴ I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.^(A)

Pleasures Are Meaningless

2 I said to myself, “Come now, I will test you with pleasure^(C) to find out what is good.” But that also proved to be meaningless.

¹⁶ I said to myself, “Look, I have increased in wisdom more than anyone who has ruled over Jerusalem before me;^(A) I have experienced much of wisdom and knowledge.”

¹² I will do what you have asked.^(A) I will give you a wise^(B) and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be.
