¹³ Then I saw that wisdom excels folly as light excels darkness.

⁸ for once you were darkness, but now in the Lord you are light. Walk as children of light,^(A)

²³ but if your eye is unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If, then, the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!

Youth and Old Age

⁷ Light is sweet, and it is pleasant for the eyes to see the sun.^(A)

³⁴ Your eye is the lamp of your body. If your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light, but if it is unhealthy, your body is full of darkness.^{(A) 35} Therefore consider whether the light in you is not darkness.

¹⁸ Then once more you shall see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve him.^(A)

The Great Day of the Lord

4 ^[a]See, the day is coming, burning like an oven, when all the arrogant and all evildoers will be stubble; the day that comes shall burn them up, says the Lord of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch.^{(B) 2} But for you who revere my name the sun of righteousness shall rise, with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall.^(C)

¹⁶ So I said, “Wisdom is better than might; yet the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are not heeded.”^(A)

¹⁹ Wisdom gives strength to the wise more than ten rulers who are in a city.^(A)
