¹² Be warned, my son, of anything in addition to them.

Of making many books there is no end, and much study wearies the body.^(A)

²⁵ Jesus did many other things as well.^(A) If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.

¹⁹ We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable,^(A) and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light^(B) shining in a dark place, until the day dawns^(C) and the morning star^(D) rises in your hearts.^{(E) 20} Above all, you must understand^(F) that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. ²¹ For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God^(G) as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.^(H)

³⁹ You study^[a] the Scriptures^(A) diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life.^(B) These are the very Scriptures that testify about me,^(C)

³¹ But these are written that you may believe^[a](A) that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God,^(B) and that by believing you may have life in his name.^(C)

²⁹ “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses^(A) and the Prophets;^(B) let them listen to them.’

³⁰ “‘No, father Abraham,’^(C) he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’

³¹ “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”

³² He spoke three thousand proverbs^(A) and his songs^(B) numbered a thousand and five.
