Jehoiachin Released from Prison(A)

27 (B)Now it came to pass in the thirty-seventh year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, that [a]Evil-Merodach king of Babylon, in the year that he began to reign, (C)released Jehoiachin king of Judah from prison. 28 He spoke kindly to him, and gave him a more prominent seat than those of the kings who were with him in Babylon. 29 So Jehoiachin changed from his prison garments, and he (D)ate [b]bread regularly before the king all the days of his life. 30 And as for his [c]provisions, there was a [d]regular ration given him by the king, a portion for each day, all the days of his life.

Jehoiachin Released(A)

27 In the thirty-seventh year of the exile of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the year Awel-Marduk became king of Babylon, he released Jehoiachin(B) king of Judah from prison. He did this on the twenty-seventh day of the twelfth month. 28 He spoke kindly(C) to him and gave him a seat of honor(D) higher than those of the other kings who were with him in Babylon. 29 So Jehoiachin put aside his prison clothes and for the rest of his life ate regularly at the king’s table.(E) 30 Day by day the king gave Jehoiachin a regular allowance as long as he lived.(F)

33 “Now therefore, let Pharaoh select a discerning and wise man, and set him over the land of Egypt. 34 Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint [a]officers over the land, (A)to collect one-fifth of the produce of the land of Egypt in the seven plentiful years. 35 And (B)let them gather all the food of those good years that are coming, and store up grain under the [b]authority of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities. 36 Then that food shall be as a [c]reserve for the land for the seven years of famine which shall be in the land of Egypt, that the land (C)may not [d]perish during the famine.”

Joseph’s Rise to Power

37 So (D)the advice was good in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of all his servants. 38 And Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find such a one as this, a man (E)in whom is the Spirit of God?”

39 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Inasmuch as God has shown you all this, there is no one as discerning and wise as you. 40 (F)You shall be [e]over my house, and all my people shall be ruled according to your word; only in regard to the throne will I be greater than you.” 41 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See, I have (G)set you over all the land of Egypt.”

42 Then Pharaoh (H)took his signet ring off his hand and put it on Joseph’s hand; and he (I)clothed him in garments of fine linen (J)and put a gold chain around his neck. 43 And he had him ride in the second (K)chariot which he had; (L)and they cried out before him, “Bow the knee!” So he set him (M)over all the land of Egypt. 44 Pharaoh also said to Joseph, “I am Pharaoh, and without your consent no man may lift his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.”

37 The plan seemed good to Pharaoh and to all his officials.(H) 38 So Pharaoh asked them, “Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom is the spirit of God[a]?”(I)

39 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has made all this known to you,(J) there is no one so discerning and wise as you.(K) 40 You shall be in charge of my palace,(L) and all my people are to submit to your orders.(M) Only with respect to the throne will I be greater than you.(N)

Joseph in Charge of Egypt
