²⁵ And I will bring the sword^(A) on you to avenge^(B) the breaking of the covenant. When you withdraw into your cities, I will send a plague^(C) among you, and you will be given into enemy hands.

¹² A third of your people will die of the plague or perish by famine inside you; a third will fall by the sword outside your walls; and a third I will scatter to the winds^(A) and pursue with drawn sword.^(B)

³ and say to her: ‘This is what the Lord says: I am against you.^(A) I will draw my sword^(B) from its sheath and cut off from you both the righteous and the wicked.^{(C) 4} Because I am going to cut off the righteous and the wicked, my sword^(D) will be unsheathed against everyone from south to north.^(E)

¹³ therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will stretch out my hand^(A) against Edom and kill both man and beast.^(B) I will lay it waste, and from Teman^(C) to Dedan^(D) they will fall by the sword.^(E)
