Piotr i Jan przed Wysoką Radą
4 Gdy oni przemawiali do ludu, podeszli do nich kapłani, dowódca straży świątynnej oraz saduceusze. 2 Byli oburzeni, że nauczają lud i głoszą, że zmartwychwstanie jest w Jezusie. 3 Schwytali ich zatem i osadzili pod strażą do następnego dnia, ponieważ zbliżał się wieczór. 4 Tymczasem wielu spośród tych, którzy usłyszeli to Słowo, uwierzyło. Liczba samych mężczyzn dochodziła do około pięciu tysięcy.
5 Następnego dnia natomiast zeszli się w Jerozolimie ich przełożeni, starsi, znawcy Prawa 6 oraz arcykapłan Annasz, Kajfasz, Jan, Aleksander i wszyscy, ilu ich było z rodu arcykapłańskiego. 7 Postawili ich pośrodku i wypytywali: Jaką mocą albo w czyim imieniu to uczyniliście?
8 Wówczas Piotr, napełniony Duchem Świętym, przemówił: Przełożeni ludu i starsi! 9 Ponieważ jesteśmy dzisiaj przesłuchiwani z powodu dobrodziejstwa wyświadczonego niepełnosprawnej osobie, dzięki któremu została ona uzdrowiona,[a] 10 to niech dla was wszystkich, a także dla całego ludu Izraela, będzie jasne, że stało się to w imieniu Jezusa Chrystusa z Nazaretu, którego wy ukrzyżowaliście, a którego Bóg wzbudził z martwych. Dzięki Niemu ten człowiek stoi przed wami zdrowy. 11 Jezus z Nazaretu jest tym kamieniem, który odrzuciliście wy, budujący, a który stał się kamieniem węgielnym.
12 I nie ma w nikim innym zbawienia, gdyż nie dano nam ludziom żadnego innego imienia pod niebem, w którym moglibyśmy być zbawieni.
13 Bezpośredniość Piotra i Jana w połączeniu z ich nieuczonością i prostotą, które zauważyli, wywołała zdziwienie. Powoli zaczęli sobie też uświadamiać, że ci ludzie byli z Jezusem. 14 Jednocześnie, widząc uzdrowionego człowieka, który stał razem z nimi, nie mieli nic przeciwko nim do powiedzenia. 15 Polecili im zatem opuścić Wysoką Radę i naradzali się między sobą.
16 Co mamy zrobić z tymi ludźmi? — rozważali. —Wiadomo przecież, że za ich pośrednictwem stał się cud. Jest to jasne dla wszystkich mieszkańców Jerozolimy. Temu nie jesteśmy w stanie zaprzeczyć. 17 Nie możemy jednak dopuścić, aby się to między ludem jeszcze bardziej rozniosło. Dlatego zakażmy im surowo, aby w tym imieniu już więcej do nikogo nie przemawiali. 18 Wezwali ich więc i nakazali, aby nawet nie próbowali mówić lub nauczać w imieniu Jezusa.
19 Lecz Piotr i Jan odpowiedzieli: Co jest słuszne przed obliczem Boga: Słuchać bardziej was czy Jego? — Osądźcie. 20 My nie potrafimy nie mówić o tym, co widzieliśmy i słyszeliśmy.
21 Wtedy oni, po dodatkowych groźbach, zwolnili ich. Nie znaleźli bowiem nic, za co mogliby ich ukarać. Do ich zwolnienia przyczynił się również fakt, że cały lud chwalił Boga za to, co się stało, 22 szczególnie, że człowiek, na którym dokonał się ten cud uzdrowienia, liczył sobie ponad czterdzieści lat.
Modlitwa o odwagę
23 Po odzyskaniu wolności, przyszli do swoich i powiadomili ich o wszystkim, co im powiedzieli arcykapłani oraz starsi. 24 Ci natomiast, gdy to usłyszeli, jednomyślnie wznieśli głos do Boga: Władco — zawołali — Ty, który stworzyłeś niebo i ziemię, morze i wszystko, co je wypełnia, 25 który ustami naszego ojca Dawida, Twojego sługi, powiedziałeś przez Ducha Świętego:
Dlaczego zbuntowały się narody,
A ludy radzą daremnie?
26 Powstali ziemscy królowie
I wspólnie spiskują książęta
Przeciwko Panu i Jego Pomazańcowi.
27 Rzeczywiście zeszli się w tym mieście przeciwko Twojemu świętemu Słudze, Jezusowi, którego namaściłeś: Herod i Poncjusz Piłat wraz z poganami i plemionami Izraela. 28 Uczynili to jednak, aby wypełnić wszystko, co i tak, w swojej mocy i ze swej woli, już wcześniej ustaliłeś, że ma się wydarzyć.[b] 29 A teraz, Panie, zwróć uwagę na ich groźby. Pozwól Twoim sługom głosić Twe Słowo z przekonaniem i odwagą, 30 gdy Ty ze swej strony wyciągasz rękę, aby leczyć oraz dokonywać znaków i cudów przez imię świętego Sługi Twego, Jezusa.
31 Gdy skończyli modlitwę, zatrzęsło się miejsce, na którym się zebrali. Wszyscy też zostali napełnieni Duchem Świętym i głosili Słowo Boże z przekonaniem i odwagą.
Codzienność wierzących
32 Cała rzesza tych, którzy uwierzyli, miała jakby jedno serce i jedną duszę. Nikt też nie nazywał własnym tego, co posiadał, ale wszystko mieli wspólne. 33 Apostołowie z ogromną mocą składali świadectwo o zmartwychwstaniu Pana Jezusa, a wszystkim towarzyszyła wielka łaska. 34 Nikt między nimi nie cierpiał niedostatku. Ci bowiem, którzy byli właścicielami gruntów lub domów, sprzedawali je, przynosili pieniądze uzyskane ze sprzedaży 35 i kładli je u stóp apostołów. Tak zgromadzone środki rozdzielano każdemu zgodnie z tym, jaką miał potrzebę.
36 Tak uczynił Józef, nazwany przez apostołów Barnabą, co można przetłumaczyć jako Syn Zachęty. Był on lewitą rodem z Cypru. 37 Po sprzedaniu swojej roli, przyniósł pieniądze i położył u stóp apostołów.

4 And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them,
2 Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.
3 And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide.
4 Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.
5 And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers, and elders, and scribes,
6 And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.
7 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?
8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,
9 If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole;
10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.
14 And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.
15 But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves,
16 Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.
17 But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.
18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.
19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.
20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.
21 So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.
22 For the man was above forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was shewed.
23 And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them.
24 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:
25 Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?
26 The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.
27 For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,
28 For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.
29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,
30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.
31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.
32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.
33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.
34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,
35 And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.
36 And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus,
37 Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

Peter and John Arrested
4 Now as they spoke to the people, the priests, the captain of the temple, and the (A)Sadducees came upon them, 2 being greatly disturbed that they taught the people and preached in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. 3 And they laid hands on them, and put them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening. 4 However, many of those who heard the word believed; and the number of the men came to be about five thousand.
Addressing the Sanhedrin
5 And it came to pass, on the next day, that their rulers, elders, and scribes, 6 as well as (B)Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the family of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem. 7 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, (C)“By what power or by what name have you done this?”
8 (D)Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders of Israel: 9 If we this day are judged for a good deed done to a helpless man, by what means he has been made well, 10 let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, (E)that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, (F)whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. 11 This is the (G)‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’ 12 (H)Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
The Name of Jesus Forbidden
13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, (I)and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus. 14 And seeing the man who had been healed (J)standing with them, they could say nothing against it. 15 But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, 16 saying, (K)“What shall we do to these men? For, indeed, that a [a]notable miracle has been done through them is (L)evident[b] to all who dwell in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. 17 But so that it spreads no further among the people, let us severely threaten them, that from now on they speak to no man in this name.”
18 (M)So they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. 19 But Peter and John answered and said to them, (N)“Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. 20 (O)For we cannot but speak the things which (P)we have seen and heard.” 21 So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way of punishing them, (Q)because of the people, since they all (R)glorified God for (S)what had been done. 22 For the man was over forty years old on whom this miracle of healing had been performed.
Prayer for Boldness(T)
23 And being let go, (U)they went to their own companions and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said to them. 24 So when they heard that, they raised their voice to God with one accord and said: “Lord, (V)You are God, who made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them, 25 who [c]by the mouth of Your servant David have said:
(W)‘Why did the nations rage,
And the people plot vain things?
26 The kings of the earth took their stand,
And the rulers were gathered together
Against the Lord and against His Christ.’
27 “For (X)truly against (Y)Your holy Servant Jesus, (Z)whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together 28 (AA)to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose determined before to be done. 29 Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants (AB)that with all boldness they may speak Your word, 30 by stretching out Your hand to heal, (AC)and that signs and wonders may be done (AD)through the name of (AE)Your holy Servant Jesus.”
31 And when they had prayed, (AF)the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, (AG)and they spoke the word of God with boldness.
Sharing in All Things
32 Now the multitude of those who believed (AH)were of one heart and one soul; (AI)neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common. 33 And with (AJ)great power the apostles gave (AK)witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And (AL)great grace was upon them all. 34 Nor was there anyone among them who lacked; (AM)for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, 35 (AN)and laid them at the apostles’ feet; (AO)and they distributed to each as anyone had need.

Petrus och Johannes arresteras
1-2 Medan de talade till folket kom översteprästerna, befälhavaren för tempelvakterna och några av saddukeerna fram till dem. De var mycket upprörda över att Petrus och Johannes påstod att Jesus hade uppstått från de döda.
3 Apostlarna blev arresterade, och eftersom det redan var kväll satte man dem i fängelse över natten.
4 Men många som lyssnade till dem trodde vad de sa, och antalet troende ökade till omkring fem tusen män.
5 Följande dag råkade vara den dag då de judiska ledarnas råd skulle ha sitt sammanträde i Jerusalem.
6 Översteprästen Hannas var där, likaså Kajafas, Johannes, Alexander och några till från översteprästernas släkt.
7 De båda lärjungarna fördes därför fram till förhör inför dem.Med vilken kraft eller med vems myndighet har ni gjort det här? frågade rådet.
8 Då svarade Petrus, fylld av den helige Ande:Ärade ledare och äldste!
9 Menar ni det som skedde med den handikappade mannen och det sätt på vilket han blev botad?
10 Låt mig i så fall klart säga både till er och till alla människor i Israel, att det skedde i kraft av Jesu, nasareens namn, han som är Messias, den man som ni korsfäste, men som Gud förde tillbaka till livet. Det är genom hans makt som den man ni ser här blev botad.
11 För Jesus, Messias, är den som Skriften talar om när det står: 'stenen som byggnadsarbetarna förkastade har blivit själva hörnstenen i huset'.
12 Det finns ingen frälsning genom någon annan! Nej, det finns inget annat namn under himlen som kan rädda en människa.
13 När rådet såg hur frimodiga Petrus och Johannes var, och att de tydligen var vanliga arbetare utan högre bildning, blev de förvånade. De förstod nu vad gemenskapen med Jesus hade betytt för dem.
14 Och rådet kunde knappast ifrågasätta undret, eftersom mannen som de hade botat stod bredvid dem.
15 Därför skickade de ut dem ur rådssalen för att rådgöra med varandra.
16 Vad ska vi göra med de här männen? frågade de varandra. Vi kan inte neka till att de har gjort ett stort under, och alla i Jerusalem känner till det.
17 Men vi kanske kan hindra dem från att sprida sina idéer. Vi säger till dem att om de gör något sådant en gång till, så kommer det att gå illa för dem.
18 Därefter kallade de in dem igen och befallde dem att aldrig mer tala om Jesus.
19 Men Petrus och Johannes svarade: Är det rätt att lyda er i stället för Gud?
20 Vi kan inte låta bli att tala om allt det underbara vi såg Jesus göra och hörde honom säga.
21 Rådet varnade dem då en gång till. Men till sist lät de dem gå, eftersom de inte visste hur de skulle straffa dem utan att det ledde till oroligheter. Alla lovprisade nämligen Gud för det underbara som hade hänt.
22 En man hade blivit botad efter att ha varit lam i fyrtio år.
De troende ber om frimodighet
23 Så snart de var fria sökte Petrus och Johannes upp de andra lärjungarna och berättade för dem vad rådet hade sagt.
24 Sedan förenade sig alla de troende i denna bön:Herre, du har skapat himlen och jorden och havet och allt som är i det.
25-26 Du talade för länge sedan genom vår förfader kung David, din tjänare, och sa genom den helige Ande: 'Varför rasar hedningarna mot Herren, och varför planerar de dåraktiga folken sina sammansvärjningar mot den allsmäktige Guden? Jordens kungar förenar sig för att kämpa mot honom, mot hans smorde Son!'
27 Det är vad som händer här i staden just nu. Kung Herodes och landshövdingen Pontius Pilatus och alla romarna, och hela Israels folk, alla har de förenat sig mot Jesus, din smorde Son, din helige tjänare.
28 De låter sig inte hejdas av något. Du har redan sagt att detta skulle ske.
29 Och nu, Herre, hör deras hotelser och hjälp oss som tror på dig att föra vittnesbördet vidare.
30 Visa din makt och låt helanden och under ske i din helige tjänare Jesu namn.
31 Efter denna bön skakade huset där de var samlade, och de fylldes alla av den helige Ande och predikade Guds ord med frimodighet.
De troende delar allt med varandra
32 Alla de troende var ett hjärta och en själ, och ingen tyckte att det han ägde var hans eget - alla delade med sig.
33 Apostlarna vittnade med kraft om Herren Jesu uppståndelse, och alla de troende levde i innerlig gemenskap.
34 Ingen saknade något. Alla som ägde mark eller hus sålde det,
35 och lämnade pengarna till apostlarna, som gav dem i sin tur till sådana som behövde dem.
36 Bland de troende fanns till exempel Josef, en cypriot av Levis stam. Apostlarna gav honom smeknamnet 'predikanten Barnabas'.
37 Han var en av dem som sålde en tomt som han ägde och gav pengarna till apostlarna, så att de kunde fördela dem bland de människor som hade det svårt.
