(A)“Do not say in your heart, after the Lord your God has thrust them out before you, ‘It is because of my righteousness that the Lord has brought me in to possess this land,’ whereas it is (B)because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is driving them out before you. (C)Not because of your righteousness or the uprightness of your heart are you going in to possess their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations the Lord your God is driving them out from before you, and that he may confirm (D)the word that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

“Know, therefore, that the Lord your God is not giving you this good land to possess because of your righteousness, for you are (E)a stubborn people. Remember and do not forget how you provoked the Lord your God to wrath in the wilderness. (F)From the day you came out of the land of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against the Lord. Even (G)at Horeb you provoked the Lord to wrath, and the Lord was so angry with you that he was ready to destroy you. (H)When I went up the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant that the Lord made with you, I remained on the mountain (I)forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water. 10 And (J)the Lord gave me the two tablets of stone written with the finger of God, and on them were all the words that the Lord had spoken with you on the mountain out of the midst of the fire (K)on the day of the assembly. 11 And at the end of forty days and forty nights the Lord gave me the two tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant. 12 Then the Lord said to me, (L)‘Arise, go down quickly from here, for your people whom you have brought from Egypt have acted corruptly. They have (M)turned aside quickly out of the way that I commanded them; they have made themselves a metal image.’

God Is King over All the Earth

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of (A)the Sons of Korah.

47 (B)Clap your hands, all peoples!
    (C)Shout to God with loud songs of joy!
For the Lord, the Most High, (D)is to be feared,
    (E)a great king over all the earth.
He (F)subdued peoples under us,
    and nations under our feet.
He chose our (G)heritage for us,
    (H)the pride of Jacob whom he loves. Selah

God (I)has gone up with a shout,
    the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.
Sing praises to God, sing praises!
    Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
For God is (J)the King of all the earth;
    sing praises (K)with a psalm![a]

God (L)reigns over the nations;
    God sits on his holy throne.
(M)The princes of the peoples gather
    as the people of the God of Abraham.
For (N)the shields of the earth belong to God;
    he is highly exalted!

Jesus Greater Than Moses

Therefore, holy brothers,[a] you who share in (A)a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, (B)the apostle and high priest of our confession, who was faithful to him who appointed him, (C)just as Moses also was faithful in all God's[b] house. For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses—as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself. (For every house is built by someone, but (D)the builder of all things is God.) (E)Now Moses was faithful in all God's house (F)as a servant, (G)to testify to the things that were to be spoken later, but Christ is faithful over God's house as (H)a son. And (I)we are his house, if indeed we (J)hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope.[c]

A Rest for the People of God

Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says,

(K)“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion,
    on the day of testing in the wilderness,
where your fathers put me to the test
    and saw my works for (L)forty years.
10 Therefore I was provoked with that generation,
and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart;
    they have not known my ways.’
11 (M)As I swore in my wrath,
    ‘They shall not enter my rest.’”

Jesus Cleanses the Temple

13 (A)The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus (B)went up to Jerusalem. 14 (C)In the temple he found those who were selling oxen and sheep and pigeons, and the money-changers sitting there. 15 And making a whip of cords, he drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and oxen. And he poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables. 16 And he told those who sold the pigeons, “Take these things away; do not make (D)my Father's house a house of trade.” 17 His disciples remembered that it was written, (E)“Zeal for your house will consume me.”

18 So the Jews said to him, (F)“What sign do you show us for doing these things?” 19 Jesus answered them, (G)“Destroy this temple, and in three days (H)I will raise it up.” 20 The Jews then said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple,[a] and will you raise it up in three days?” 21 But he was speaking about (I)the temple of his body. 22 When therefore he was raised from the dead, (J)his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed (K)the Scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken.
