The Greatest Command
6 “This is the command—the statutes and ordinances—the Lord your God has commanded me to teach you, so that you may follow them in the land you are about to enter and possess.(A) 2 Do this so that you may fear(B) the Lord your God(C) all the days of your life(D) by keeping all his statutes and commands I am giving you, your son, and your grandson, and so that you may have a long life.(E) 3 Listen, Israel, and be careful to follow them, so that you may prosper and multiply greatly, because the Lord, the God of your ancestors, has promised you a land flowing with milk and honey.(F)
4 “Listen, Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.[a](G) 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.(H) 6 These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart.(I) 7 Repeat them to your children.(J) Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be a symbol[b] on your forehead.[c](K) 9 Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your city gates.
Remembering God through Obedience
10 “When the Lord your God brings you into the land he swore to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob that he would give you—a land with large and beautiful cities that you did not build, 11 houses full of every good thing that you did not fill them with, cisterns that you did not dig, and vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant(L)—and when you eat and are satisfied,(M) 12 be careful not to forget the Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the place of slavery.(N) 13 Fear the Lord your God, worship him, and take your oaths in his name.(O) 14 Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around you, 15 for the Lord your God, who is among you, is a jealous God.(P) Otherwise, the Lord your God will become angry with you and obliterate you from the face of the earth. 16 Do not test(Q) the Lord your God as you tested him at Massah.(R) 17 Carefully observe the commands of the Lord your God, the decrees and statutes he has commanded you. 18 Do what is right and good in the Lord’s sight, so that you may prosper and so that you may enter and possess the good land(S) the Lord your God swore to give your ancestors,(T) 19 by driving out all your enemies before you, as the Lord has said.(U)
20 “When your son asks you in the future, ‘What is the meaning(V) of the decrees, statutes, and ordinances that the Lord our God has commanded you?’ 21 tell him, ‘We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a strong hand.(W) 22 Before our eyes the Lord inflicted great and devastating signs and wonders on Egypt,(X) on Pharaoh, and on all his household, 23 but he brought us from there in order to lead us in and give us the land that he swore to our ancestors. 24 The Lord commanded us to follow all these statutes and to fear the Lord our God for our prosperity always and for our preservation, as it is today. 25 Righteousness will be ours if we are careful to follow every one of these commands before the Lord our God, as he has commanded us.’

6 「你們的上帝耶和華吩咐我教導你們以下的誡命、律例和典章，以便你們在將要佔領的土地上遵行。 2 這樣，你們就會得享長壽，你們及子孫就會終生敬畏你們的上帝耶和華，遵守祂藉我吩咐你們的一切律例和誡命。 3 以色列人啊，你們要留心聽，謹慎遵行，以便你們在那奶蜜之鄉可以凡事順利、子孫眾多，正如你們祖先的上帝耶和華給你們的應許。 4 聽啊，以色列人，耶和華是我們的上帝，耶和華是獨一的。 5 你們要全心、全意、全力愛你們的上帝耶和華。 6 要將我今天吩咐你們的話牢記在心， 7 並教導你們的兒女，無論在家在外，或起或臥，都要講論這些律例和誡命。 8 要把它們繫在手上、戴在額上作記號， 9 要寫在城門上和自家的門框上。

16 「不可像在瑪撒那樣試探你們的上帝耶和華。 17 要謹遵你們的上帝耶和華吩咐你們的誡命、法度和律例。 18 你們要做耶和華視為正與善的事，以便你們可以凡事順利，得到耶和華起誓賜給你們祖先的佳美之地， 19 趕出所有敵人，正如耶和華所言。
20 「將來你們的子孫會問，『我們的上帝耶和華給你們頒佈這些法度、律例和典章是什麼意思？』 21 你們要告訴他們，『我們曾在埃及做法老的奴隸，耶和華用大能的手領我們離開埃及。 22 我們親眼看見耶和華行偉大而可畏的神蹟奇事，懲罰埃及和法老全家。 23 祂帶領我們離開埃及，為要把我們帶進祂起誓賜給我們祖先的這片土地。 24 我們的上帝耶和華吩咐我們遵守這一切律例、敬畏祂，以便我們可以常常受益，生命無憂，正如今日的情形。 25 如果我們按照我們的上帝耶和華的吩咐，在祂面前謹遵這一切誡命，我們便被算為義人。』

6 ¶ Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the rights, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you that ye might do them in the land into which ye go to inherit it
2 that thou might fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou and thy son and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life and that thy days may be prolonged.
3 Hear, therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it that it may be well with thee and that ye may be multiplied exceedingly (as the LORD God of thy fathers has said unto thee) in the land that flows with milk and honey.
4 ¶ Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD.
5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart and with all thy soul and with all thy might.
6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be upon thy heart,
7 and thou shalt repeat them diligently unto thy sons and shalt talk of them being in thy house and walking by the way, lying down in bed, and rising up;
8 and thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thy hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thy eyes;
9 and thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house and on thy gates.
10 And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he swore unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give it unto thee: great and goodly cities, which thou didst not build,
11 and houses full of all good things, which thou didst not fill, and hewn out wells, which thou didst not dig, vineyards and olive trees, which thou didst not plant; when thou shalt have eaten and be full,
12 then beware lest thou forget the LORD, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery.
13 Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God and serve him and shalt swear by his name.
14 Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the peoples who are round about you
15 (for the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest peradventure the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.
16 Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.
17 ¶ Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God and his testimonies and his statutes, which he has commanded thee.
18 And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the LORD that it may be well with thee and that thou may enter in and inherit the good land which the LORD swore unto thy fathers
19 so that he will cast out all thine enemies from before thy presence, as the LORD has spoken.
20 And when tomorrow thy son asks thee, saying, What are the testimonies and the statutes and the rights, which the LORD our God has commanded you?
21 Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh’s slaves in Egypt, and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand;
22 and the LORD showed signs and wonders, great and sore, in Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes;
23 and he brought us out from there that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he swore unto our fathers.
24 And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes that we might fear the LORD our God for our good always that he might give us life, as it is at this day.
25 And we shall have justice when we keep ourselves by doing all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he has commanded us.
