Deuteronomy 6

King James Version

6 Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the Lord your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it:

²That thou mightest fear the Lord thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.

³Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the Lord God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.

⁴Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord:

⁵And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

⁶And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:

⁷And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

⁸And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.

⁹And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.

¹⁰And it shall be, when the Lord thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not,

¹¹And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full;

¹²Then beware lest thou forget the Lord, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

¹³Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name.

¹⁴Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you;

¹⁵(For the Lord thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the Lord thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.

¹⁶Ye shall not tempt the Lord your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.

¹⁷Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee.

¹⁸And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the Lord: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers.

¹⁹To cast out all thine enemies from before thee, as the Lord hath spoken.

²⁰And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the Lord our God hath commanded you?

²¹Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh's bondmen in Egypt; and the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand:

²²And the Lord shewed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes:

²³And he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he sware unto our fathers.

²⁴And the Lord commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.

²⁵And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the Lord our God, as he hath commanded us.

The Greatest Commandment

6 “Now this is ^(A)the commandment, and these are the statutes and judgments which the Lord your God has commanded to teach you, that you may observe them in the land which you are crossing over to possess, ²^(B)that you may fear the Lord your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, you and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, ^(C)and that your days may be prolonged. ³Therefore hear, O Israel, and ^[a]be careful to observe it, that it may be well with you, and that you may ^(D)multiply greatly ^(E)as the Lord God of your fathers has promised you—^(F)‘a land flowing with milk and honey.’

⁴^(G)“Hear, O Israel: ^[b]The Lord our God, the Lord is one! ⁵^(H)You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, ^(I)with all your soul, and with all your strength.

⁶“And ^(J)these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. ⁷^(K)You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. ⁸^(L)You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. ⁹^(M)You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Caution Against Disobedience

¹⁰“So it shall be, when the Lord your God brings you into the land of which He ^[c]swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give you large and beautiful cities ^(N)which you did not build, ¹¹houses full of all good things, which you did not fill, hewn-out wells which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant—^(O)when you have eaten and are full— ¹²then beware, lest you forget the ^(P)Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. ¹³You shall ^(Q)fear the Lord your God and serve Him, and ^(R)shall take oaths in His name. ¹⁴You shall not go after other gods, ^(S)the gods of the peoples who are all around you ¹⁵(for ^(T)the Lord your God is a jealous God ^(U)among you), lest the anger of the Lord your God be aroused against you and destroy you from the face of the earth.

¹⁶^(V)“You shall not ^[d]tempt the Lord your God ^(W)as you ^[e]tempted Him in Massah. ¹⁷You shall ^(X)diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God, His testimonies, and His statutes which He has commanded you. ¹⁸And you ^(Y)shall do what is right and good in the sight of the Lord, that it may be well with you, and that you may go in and possess the good land of which the Lord swore to your fathers, ¹⁹^(Z)to cast out all your enemies from before you, as the Lord has spoken.

²⁰^(AA)“When your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What is the meaning of the testimonies, the statutes, and the judgments which the Lord our God has commanded you?’ ²¹then you shall say to your son: ‘We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, and the Lord brought us out of Egypt ^(AB)with a mighty hand; ²²and the Lord showed signs and wonders before our eyes, great and severe, against Egypt, Pharaoh, and all his household. ²³Then He brought us out from there, that He might bring us in, to give us the land of which He ^[f]swore to our fathers. ²⁴And the Lord commanded us to ^[g]observe all these ^[h]statutes, ^(AC)to fear the Lord our God, ^(AD)for our good always, that ^(AE)He might preserve us alive, as it is ^[i]this day. ²⁵Then ^(AF)it will be righteousness for us, if we are careful to observe all these commandments before the Lord our God, as He has commanded us.’

Kính Yêu CHÚA, Đức Chúa Trời Các Ngươi

6 Đây là các điều răn, quy luật và sắc lệnh CHÚA, Đức Chúa Trời của chúng ta đã truyền tôi dạy cho anh chị em vâng giữ khi sinh sống trong xứ anh chị em sẽ chiếm hữu sau khi qua sông Giô-đanh, ²để anh chị em và con cháu anh chị em biết kính sợ CHÚA, Đức Chúa Trời của anh chị em suốt thời gian sống trên đất và nhờ giữ các mạng lệnh, điều răn đó, anh chị em sẽ được sống lâu. ³Anh chị em Y-sơ-ra-ên! Anh chị em hãy nghe và cẩn thận làm theo để anh chị em được phước hạnh và trở nên đông đúc trong xứ tràn trề sữa và mật ong, như CHÚA, Đức Chúa Trời của tổ tiên đã hứa với anh chị em.

⁴Toàn dân Y-sơ-ra-ên hãy nghe đây! CHÚA, Đức Chúa Trời của chúng ta là CHÚA có một không hai. ⁵Phải hết lòng, hết linh hồn, hết sức yêu kính CHÚA, Đức Chúa Trời của anh chị em. ⁶Anh chị em phải ghi lòng tạc dạ các điều răn tôi truyền lại cho anh chị em hôm nay. ⁷Phải ân cần dạy dỗ con cái những điều này, dạy chúng khi ngồi ở nhà cũng như khi đang đi đường, khi đi ngủ cũng như khi thức dậy. ⁸Phải buộc lời này vào tay như một biểu hiệu và đeo trên trán để nhớ. ⁹Phải viết lời này trên khung cửa nhà và trên cổng thành.

¹⁰Khi CHÚA, Đức Chúa Trời của anh chị em đã đem anh chị em vào xứ mà Ngài đã thề hứa ban cho tổ phụ chúng ta là Áp-ra-ham, Y-sác, Gia-cốp và cho anh chị em chiếm hữu những thành to lớn giàu có không do anh chị em kiến thiết, ¹¹nhà cửa đầy dẫy những vật tốt đẹp không do anh chị em mua sắm; giếng nước không do anh chị em đào, vườn nho và vườn ô-liu không do anh chị em trồng, và khi được ăn uống thỏa thích, ¹²anh chị em phải cẩn thận đừng quên CHÚA, là Đấng đã đem anh chị em ra khỏi Ai-cập là đất nô lệ.

¹³Phải kính sợ CHÚA, Đức Chúa Trời của anh chị em, chỉ phục vụ một mình Ngài và lấy danh Ngài mà thề nguyện. ¹⁴Đừng theo các thần khác, là thần của các dân tộc lân bang; ¹⁵vì CHÚA, Đức Chúa Trời, Đấng hiện diện giữa anh chị em, là Đức Chúa Trời kỵ tà, nếu anh chị em thờ các thần khác, cơn thịnh nộ của Ngài sẽ nổi dậy nghịch với anh chị em và Ngài sẽ tiêu diệt anh chị em khỏi mặt đất. ¹⁶Vậy đừng thử thách CHÚA, Đức Chúa Trời của anh chị em như anh chị em đã làm tại Ma-sa. ¹⁷Phải nhất quyết tuân hành các điều răn của CHÚA, Đức Chúa Trời của anh chị em cùng với các điều khoản và mạng lệnh tôi đã truyền lại. ¹⁸Phải làm những việc gì CHÚA cho là đúng và tốt, như vậy anh chị em mới được phước và có thể vào chiếm lấy xứ tốt đẹp CHÚA đã thề hứa ban cho các tổ phụ, ¹⁹và mọi quân thù cũng sẽ bị quét sạch như CHÚA đã hứa.

²⁰Sau này, khi con cái anh chị em hỏi: “Các điều khoản, quy luật và sắc lệnh CHÚA, Đức Chúa Trời của chúng ta đã truyền có ý nghĩa gì?” ²¹Anh chị em sẽ trả lời: “Ngày xưa chúng ta là nô lệ của Pha-ra-ôn trong xứ Ai-cập, nhưng CHÚA đã dùng tay quyền năng đem chúng ta ra khỏi Ai-cập. ²²Chúng ta đã thấy CHÚA làm nhiều dấu kỳ phép lạ rất lớn và rất khủng khiếp để hình phạt Ai-cập, Pha-ra-ôn và cả hoàng gia. ²³Nhưng Ngài đem chúng ta ra khỏi xứ đó và dẫn chúng ta vào xứ Ngài đã thề hứa với các tổ phụ và ban cho chúng ta xứ này. ²⁴CHÚA có truyền dạy chúng ta phải tuân hành tất cả các mạng lệnh này và kính sợ CHÚA, Đức Chúa Trời của chúng ta, để chúng ta được thịnh vượng và sống còn như ngày hôm nay. ²⁵Nếu chúng ta thận trọng vâng theo tất cả điều răn này của CHÚA, Đức Chúa Trời của chúng ta, chúng ta được kể là công chính.”
