⁴ “^(A)Hear, Israel! The Lord is our God, the ^(B)Lord is one! ⁵ And ^(C)you shall love the Lord your God ^(D)with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. ^6 (E)These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. ⁷ And ^(F)you shall repeat them diligently to your sons and speak of them when you sit in your house, when you walk on the road, when you lie down, and when you get up. ^8 (G)You shall also tie them as a ^[a]sign to your ^[b]hand, and they shall be as ^[c]frontlets ^[d]on your forehead. ^9 (H)You shall also write them on the ^[e]doorposts of your house and on your gates.

³⁵ And one of them, ^[a](A)a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him: ³⁶ “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” ³⁷ And He said to him, “‘^(B)You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ ³⁸ This is the great and ^[b]foremost commandment. ³⁹ The second is like it, ‘^(C)You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

^28 (A)One of the scribes came up and heard them arguing, and ^(B)recognizing that He had answered them well, asked Him, “What commandment is the ^[a]foremost of all?” ²⁹ Jesus answered, “The ^[b]foremost is, ‘^(C)Hear, Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one; ^30 (D)and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ ³¹ The second is this: ‘^(E)You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

^25 (A)And behold, a ^[a](B)lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” ²⁶ And He said to him, “What is written in the Law? ^[b]How does it read to you?” ²⁷ And he answered, “^(C)You shall love the Lord your God ^[c]with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”
