Deuteronomy 6:13-25
New King James Version
13 You shall (A)fear the Lord your God and serve Him, and (B)shall take oaths in His name. 14 You shall not go after other gods, (C)the gods of the peoples who are all around you 15 (for (D)the Lord your God is a jealous God (E)among you), lest the anger of the Lord your God be aroused against you and destroy you from the face of the earth.
16 (F)“You shall not [a]tempt the Lord your God (G)as you [b]tempted Him in Massah. 17 You shall (H)diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God, His testimonies, and His statutes which He has commanded you. 18 And you (I)shall do what is right and good in the sight of the Lord, that it may be well with you, and that you may go in and possess the good land of which the Lord swore to your fathers, 19 (J)to cast out all your enemies from before you, as the Lord has spoken.
20 (K)“When your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What is the meaning of the testimonies, the statutes, and the judgments which the Lord our God has commanded you?’ 21 then you shall say to your son: ‘We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, and the Lord brought us out of Egypt (L)with a mighty hand; 22 and the Lord showed signs and wonders before our eyes, great and severe, against Egypt, Pharaoh, and all his household. 23 Then He brought us out from there, that He might bring us in, to give us the land of which He [c]swore to our fathers. 24 And the Lord commanded us to [d]observe all these [e]statutes, (M)to fear the Lord our God, (N)for our good always, that (O)He might preserve us alive, as it is [f]this day. 25 Then (P)it will be righteousness for us, if we are careful to observe all these commandments before the Lord our God, as He has commanded us.’

God, the True Shepherd
11 ‘For thus says the Lord God: “Indeed I Myself will search for My sheep and seek them out. 12 As a (A)shepherd seeks out his flock on the day he is among his scattered sheep, so will I seek out My sheep and deliver them from all the places where they were scattered on (B)a cloudy and dark day. 13 And (C)I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries, and will bring them to their own land; I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, [a]in the valleys and in all the inhabited places of the country. 14 (D)I will feed them in good pasture, and their fold shall be on the high mountains of Israel. (E)There they shall lie down in a good fold and feed in rich pasture on the mountains of Israel. 15 I will feed My flock, and I will make them lie down,” says the Lord God. 16 (F)“I will seek what was lost and bring back what was driven away, bind up the broken and strengthen what was sick; but I will destroy (G)the fat and the strong, and feed them (H)in judgment.”

The Promise of Rest
4 Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, (A)let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. 2 For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, [a]not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. 3 For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said:
(B)“So I swore in My wrath,
‘They shall not enter My rest,’ ”
although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4 For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: (C)“And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”; 5 and again in this place: (D)“They shall not enter My rest.”
6 Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience, 7 again He designates a certain day, saying in David, “Today,” after such a long time, as it has been said:
(E)“Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts.”
8 For if [b]Joshua had (F)given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day. 9 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. 10 For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.
