⁹ Only take heed to yourself, and diligently ^(A)keep yourself, lest you ^(B)forget the things your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. And ^(C)teach them to your children and your grandchildren, ¹⁰ especially concerning ^(D)the day you stood before the Lord your God in Horeb, when the Lord said to me, ‘Gather the people to Me, and I will let them hear My words, that they may learn to fear Me all the days they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children.’

¹¹ “Then you came near and stood at the foot of the mountain, and the mountain burned with fire to the midst of heaven, with darkness, cloud, and thick darkness. ^12 (E)And the Lord spoke to you out of the midst of the fire. You heard the sound of the words, but saw no ^[a]form; ^(F)you only heard a voice. ^13 (G)So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, ^(H)the Ten Commandments; and ^(I)He wrote them on two tablets of stone. ¹⁴ And ^(J)the Lord commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that you might ^[b]observe them in the land which you cross over to possess.

^7 (A)You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. ^8 (B)You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. ^9 (C)You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

^20 (A)“When your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What is the meaning of the testimonies, the statutes, and the judgments which the Lord our God has commanded you?’ ²¹ then you shall say to your son: ‘We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, and the Lord brought us out of Egypt ^(B)with a mighty hand; ²² and the Lord showed signs and wonders before our eyes, great and severe, against Egypt, Pharaoh, and all his household. ²³ Then He brought us out from there, that He might bring us in, to give us the land of which He ^[a]swore to our fathers. ²⁴ And the Lord commanded us to ^[b]observe all these ^[c]statutes, ^(C)to fear the Lord our God, ^(D)for our good always, that ^(E)He might preserve us alive, as it is ^[d]this day. ²⁵ Then ^(F)it will be righteousness for us, if we are careful to observe all these commandments before the Lord our God, as He has commanded us.’

¹⁸ “Therefore ^(A)you shall ^[a]lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your ^(B)soul, and ^(C)bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. ^19 (D)You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. ^20 (E)And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, ²¹ that ^(F)your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land of which the Lord swore to your fathers to give them, like ^(G)the days of the heavens above the earth.
