Deuteronomy 4:40-42

⁴⁰ “You shall therefore keep His Ordinances and His Commandments which I command you this day, so that it may go well with you and with your children after you and that you may prolong your days upon the Earth which the LORD your God gives you forever.”

⁴¹ Then Moses separated three cities on this side of the Jordan, toward the rising Sun,

⁴² so that the slayer who had killed his neighbor unintentionally, and had not hated him in the past, could flee from there. That is to say, he might flee to one of these cities and live:
