11 You came near and stood at the base of the mountain,(A) a mountain blazing with fire(B) into the heavens and enveloped in a totally black cloud.(C) 12 Then the Lord spoke to you from the fire.(D) You kept hearing the sound of the words, but didn’t see a form; there was only a voice.(E) 13 He declared his covenant(F) to you. He commanded you to follow the Ten Commandments,(G) which he wrote on two stone tablets.(H)

11 “Then you came near and stood at the foot of the mountain, and the mountain burned with fire to the midst of heaven, with darkness, cloud, and thick darkness. 12 (A)And the Lord spoke to you out of the midst of the fire. You heard the sound of the words, but saw no [a]form; (B)you only heard a voice. 13 (C)So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, (D)the Ten Commandments; and (E)He wrote them on two tablets of stone.
