31 Then Moses went and spoke these words to all Israel,
2 and said to them, “I am a hundred and twenty years old this day. I cannot go out and in anymore. Also, the LORD has said to me, ‘You shall not go over this Jordan.’
3 “The LORD your God, He will go over before you. He will destroy these nations before you. And you shall possess them. Joshua, he shall go before you, as the LORD has said.
4 “And the LORD shall do to them as he did to Sihon and to Og, kings of the Amorites (whom He destroyed), and to their land.
5 “And the LORD shall give them before you, so that you may do to them according to every Commandment which I have commanded you.
6 “Have courage, therefore, and be strong. Do not fear or be afraid of them. For the LORD your God Himself goes with you. He will neither fail you nor forsake you.”
7 And Moses called Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, “Be of a good courage and strong. For you shall go with this people to the land which the LORD has sworn to their fathers, to give them. And you shall give it to them to inherit.
8 “And the LORD Himself goes before you. He will be with you. He will neither fail you nor forsake you. Do not fear or be discomforted.”
9 And Moses wrote this Law and delivered it to the priests, the sons of Levi (who bore the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD) and to all the elders of Israel.
10 And Moses commanded them, saying, “Every seventh year, the year of freedom in the Feast of the Tabernacles,
11 “when all Israel shall come to appear before the LORD your God and the place which He shall choose, you shall read this Law before all Israel so that they may hear it.
12 “Gather the people together — men, women, children, and the stranger who is within your gates — so that they may hear, and that they may learn and fear the LORD your God, and keep and observe all the words of this Law,
13 “and that their children who have not known it may hear it and learn to fear the LORD your God as long as you live in the land to which you go over Jordan to possess.”
14 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Behold, the day has come that you must die. Call Joshua and stand in the Tabernacle of the Congregation so that I may give him a charge.” So, Moses and Joshua went and stood in the Tabernacle of the Congregation.
15 And the LORD appeared in the Tabernacle, in the pillar of a cloud. And the pillar of the cloud stood over the door of the Tabernacle.
16 And the LORD said to Moses, “Behold, you shall sleep with your fathers. And this people will rise up and go a whoring after the gods of a strange land (wherever they go in) and will forsake Me and break My Covenant which I have made with them.
17 “Therefore, My wrath will grow hot against them on that day. And I will forsake them and will hide My Face from them. Then they shall be consumed. And many adversities and tribulations shall come upon them. “So, then, they will say, ‘Have not these troubles come upon me because God is not with me?’
18 “But I will surely hide My Face on that day because of all the evil which they shall commit on the day they are turned to other gods.
19 “Now, therefore, write this song for yourselves and teach it to the children of Israel. Put it in their mouths, so that this song may be My witness against the children of Israel.
20 “For I will bring them into the land which I swore to their fathers, that flows with milk and honey. And they shall eat, and fill themselves, and grow fat. Then they shall turn to other gods and serve them, and contemn Me and break My Covenant.
21 “And then, when many adversities and tribulations shall come upon them, this song shall answer them to their faces as a witness. For it shall not be forgotten out of the mouths of their descendants. For I know the intent of their imagination even now, before I have brought them into the land which I swore.”
22 Moses, therefore, wrote this song the same day, and taught it to the children of Israel,
23 and gave Joshua, the son of Nun, a charge, and said, “Be strong and of a good courage. For you shall bring the children of Israel into the land which I swore to them. And I will be with you.”
24 And when Moses had made an end of writing the words of this Law in a Book — when he had finished them —
25 then Moses commanded the Levites who bore the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD, saying,
26 “Take the Book of this Law and put it inside of the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD your God, so that it may be there for a witness against you.
27 “For I know your rebellion and your stiff neck. Behold, I am still alive with you this day and you are rebellious against the LORD. How much more so, then, after my death?
28 “Gather to me all the elders of your tribes, and your officers, so that I may speak these words in their audience and call Heaven and Earth to record against them.
29 “For I am sure that after my death, you will be utterly corrupt and turn from the way which I have commanded you. Therefore, evil will come upon you in the end, because you will commit evil in the sight of the LORD by provoking Him to anger through the work of your hands.”
30 Thus Moses spoke the words of this song in the audience of all the Congregation of Israel, until he had ended them.

31 Y FUÉ Moisés, y habló estas palabras á todo Israel,
2 Y díjoles: De edad de ciento y veinte años soy hoy día; no puedo más salir ni entrar: á más de esto Jehová me ha dicho: No pasarás este Jordán.
3 Jehová tu Dios, él pasa delante de ti; él destruirá estas gentes de delante de ti, y las heredarás: Josué será el que pasará delante de ti, como Jehová ha dicho.
4 Y hará Jehová con ellos como hizo con Sehón y con Og, reyes de los Amorrheos, y con su tierra, que los destruyó.
5 Y los entregará Jehová delante de vosotros, y haréis con ellos conforme á todo lo que os he mandado.
6 Esforzaos y cobrad ánimo; no temáis, ni tengáis miedo de ellos: que Jehová tu Dios es el que va contigo: no te dejará ni te desamparará.
7 Y llamó Moisés á Josué, y díjole á vista de todo Israel: Esfuérzate y anímate; porque tú entrarás con este pueblo á la tierra que juró Jehová á sus padres que les había de dar, y tú se la harás heredar.
8 Y Jehová es el que va delante de ti; él será contigo, no te dejará, ni te desamparará; no temas, ni te intimides.
9 Y escribió Moisés esta ley, y dióla á los sacerdotes, hijos de Leví, que llevaban el arca del pacto de Jehová, y á todos los ancianos de Israel.
10 Y mandóles Moisés, diciendo: Al cabo del séptimo año, en el año de la remisión, en la fiesta de las Cabañas,
11 Cuando viniere todo Israel á presentarse delante de Jehová tu Dios en el lugar que él escogiere, leerás esta ley delante de todo Israel á oídos de ellos.
12 Harás congregar el pueblo, varones y mujeres y niños, y tus extranjeros que estuvieren en tus ciudades, para que oigan y aprendan, y teman á Jehová vuestro Dios, y cuiden de poner por obra todas las palabras de esta ley:
13 Y los hijos de ellos que no supieron oigan, y aprendan á temer á Jehová vuestro Dios todos los días que viviereis sobre la tierra, para ir á la cual pasáis el Jordán para poseerla.
14 Y Jehová dijo á Moisés: He aquí se han acercado tus días para que mueras: llama á Josué, y esperad en el tabernáculo del testimonio, y le mandaré. Fueron pues Moisés y Josué, y esperaron en el tabernáculo del testimonio.
15 Y aparecióse Jehová en el tabernáculo, en la columna de nube; y la columna de nube se puso sobre la puerta del tabernáculo.
16 Y Jehová dijo á Moisés: He aquí tú vas á dormir con tus padres, y este pueblo se levantará y fornicará tras los dioses ajenos de la tierra adonde va, en estando en medio de ella; y me dejará, é invalidará mi pacto que he concertado con él:
17 Y mi furor se encenderá contra él en aquel día; y los abandonaré, y esconderé de ellos mi rostro, y serán consumidos; y le hallarán muchos males y angustias, y dirá en aquel día: ¿No me han hallado estos males porque no está mi Dios en medio de mí?
18 Empero yo esconderé ciertamente mi rostro en aquel día, por todo el mal que ellos habrán hecho, por haberse vuelto á dioses ajenos.
19 Ahora, pues, escribíos este cántico, y enséñalo á los hijos de Israel: ponlo en boca de ellos, para que este cántico me sea por testigo contra los hijos de Israel.
20 Porque yo le introduciré en la tierra que juré á sus padres, la cual fluye leche y miel; y comerá, y se hartará, y se engordará: y volveránse á dioses ajenos, y les servirán, y me enojarán, é invalidarán mi pacto.
21 Y será que cuando le vinieren muchos males y angustias, entonces responderá en su cara este cántico como testigo, pues no caerá en olvido de la boca de su linaje: porque yo conozco su ingenio, y lo que hace hoy antes que le introduzca en la tierra que juré.
22 Y Moisés escribió este cántico aquel día, y enseñólo á los hijos de Israel.
23 Y dió orden á Josué hijo de Nun, y dijo: Esfuérzate y anímate, que tú meterás los hijos de Israel en la tierra que les juré, y yo seré contigo.
24 Y como acabó Moisés de escribir las palabras de esta ley en un libro hasta concluirse,
25 Mandó Moisés á los Levitas que llevaban el arca del pacto de Jehová, diciendo:
26 Tomad este libro de la ley, y ponedlo al lado del arca del pacto de Jehová vuestro Dios, y esté allí por testigo contra ti.
27 Porque yo conozco tu rebelión, y tu cerviz dura: he aquí que aun viviendo yo hoy con vosotros, sois rebeldes á Jehová; y ¿cuánto más después que yo fuere muerto?
28 Congregad á mí todos los ancianos de vuestras tribus, y á vuestros oficiales, y hablaré en sus oídos estas palabras, y llamaré por testigos contra ellos los cielos y la tierra.
29 Porque yo sé que después de mi muerte, ciertamente os corromperéis y os aparteréis del camino que os he mandado; y que os ha de venir mal en los postreros días, por haber hecho mal en ojos de Jehová, enojándole con la obra de vuestras manos.
30 Entonces habló Moisés en oídos de toda la congregación de Israel las palabras de este cántico hasta acabarlo.

Joshua to Succeed Moses
31 Then Moses went out and spoke these words to all Israel: 2 “I am now a hundred and twenty years old(A) and I am no longer able to lead you.(B) The Lord has said to me, ‘You shall not cross the Jordan.’(C) 3 The Lord your God himself will cross(D) over ahead of you.(E) He will destroy these nations(F) before you, and you will take possession of their land. Joshua also will cross(G) over ahead of you, as the Lord said. 4 And the Lord will do to them what he did to Sihon and Og,(H) the kings of the Amorites, whom he destroyed along with their land. 5 The Lord will deliver(I) them to you, and you must do to them all that I have commanded you. 6 Be strong and courageous.(J) Do not be afraid or terrified(K) because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you;(L) he will never leave you(M) nor forsake(N) you.”
7 Then Moses summoned Joshua and said(O) to him in the presence of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you must go with this people into the land that the Lord swore to their ancestors to give them,(P) and you must divide it among them as their inheritance. 8 The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you;(Q) he will never leave you nor forsake you.(R) Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
Public Reading of the Law
9 So Moses wrote(S) down this law and gave it to the Levitical priests, who carried(T) the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and to all the elders of Israel. 10 Then Moses commanded them: “At the end of every seven years, in the year for canceling debts,(U) during the Festival of Tabernacles,(V) 11 when all Israel comes to appear(W) before the Lord your God at the place he will choose,(X) you shall read this law(Y) before them in their hearing. 12 Assemble the people—men, women and children, and the foreigners residing in your towns—so they can listen and learn(Z) to fear(AA) the Lord your God and follow carefully all the words of this law. 13 Their children,(AB) who do not know this law, must hear it and learn to fear the Lord your God as long as you live in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.”
Israel’s Rebellion Predicted
14 The Lord said to Moses, “Now the day of your death(AC) is near. Call Joshua(AD) and present yourselves at the tent of meeting, where I will commission him.(AE)” So Moses and Joshua came and presented themselves at the tent of meeting.(AF)
15 Then the Lord appeared at the tent in a pillar of cloud, and the cloud stood over the entrance to the tent.(AG) 16 And the Lord said to Moses: “You are going to rest with your ancestors,(AH) and these people will soon prostitute(AI) themselves to the foreign gods of the land they are entering. They will forsake(AJ) me and break the covenant I made with them. 17 And in that day I will become angry(AK) with them and forsake(AL) them; I will hide(AM) my face(AN) from them, and they will be destroyed. Many disasters(AO) and calamities will come on them, and in that day they will ask, ‘Have not these disasters come on us because our God is not with us?’(AP) 18 And I will certainly hide my face in that day because of all their wickedness in turning to other gods.
19 “Now write(AQ) down this song and teach it to the Israelites and have them sing it, so that it may be a witness(AR) for me against them. 20 When I have brought them into the land flowing with milk and honey, the land I promised on oath to their ancestors,(AS) and when they eat their fill and thrive, they will turn to other gods(AT) and worship them,(AU) rejecting me and breaking my covenant.(AV) 21 And when many disasters and calamities come on them,(AW) this song will testify against them, because it will not be forgotten by their descendants. I know what they are disposed to do,(AX) even before I bring them into the land I promised them on oath.” 22 So Moses wrote(AY) down this song that day and taught it to the Israelites.
23 The Lord gave this command(AZ) to Joshua son of Nun: “Be strong and courageous,(BA) for you will bring the Israelites into the land I promised them on oath, and I myself will be with you.”
24 After Moses finished writing(BB) in a book the words of this law(BC) from beginning to end, 25 he gave this command to the Levites who carried(BD) the ark of the covenant of the Lord: 26 “Take this Book of the Law and place it beside the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God. There it will remain as a witness against you.(BE) 27 For I know how rebellious(BF) and stiff-necked(BG) you are. If you have been rebellious against the Lord while I am still alive and with you, how much more will you rebel after I die! 28 Assemble before me all the elders of your tribes and all your officials, so that I can speak these words in their hearing and call the heavens and the earth to testify against them.(BH) 29 For I know that after my death you are sure to become utterly corrupt(BI) and to turn from the way I have commanded you. In days to come, disaster(BJ) will fall on you because you will do evil in the sight of the Lord and arouse his anger by what your hands have made.”

30 And Moses recited the words of this song from beginning to end in the hearing of the whole assembly of Israel:

Joshua Takes Moses’ Place
31 Then Moses went and spoke these words to all the Israelites: 2 “I am now one hundred twenty years old, and I cannot lead you anymore. The Lord told me I would not cross the Jordan River [Num. 20:12]; 3 the Lord your God will lead you across himself. He will destroy those nations for you, and you will take ·over [possession of] their land. Joshua will also lead you across, as the Lord has said [1:37; Num. 27:18–22; Josh. 1]. 4 The Lord will do to those nations what he did to Sihon and Og, the kings of the Amorites, when he destroyed them and their land [Num. 21:21–35]. 5 The Lord will give those nations to you; do to them ·everything [L according to all the commandments] I ·told [commanded] you. 6 Be strong and ·brave [courageous; Josh. 1:6–9]. Don’t be afraid of them and don’t be frightened, because the Lord your God will go with you. He will not ·leave [fail] you or ·forget [abandon; forsake] you.”
7 Then Moses called Joshua and said to him in front of the people, “Be strong and ·brave [courageous], because you will lead these people into the land the Lord ·promised [swore] to give their ·ancestors [fathers], and help them take it as their own. 8 The Lord himself will go before you. He will be with you; he will not ·leave [fail] you or ·forget [abandon; forsake] you. Don’t be afraid and don’t worry.”
Moses Writes the Teachings
9 So Moses wrote down these ·teachings [laws; instructions] and gave them to the priests and all the elders of Israel. (The priests are the sons of Levi, who carry the Ark of the ·Agreement [Treaty; Covenant; Ex. 25:10] with the Lord.)
The Lord Calls Moses and Joshua
14 The Lord said to Moses, “·Soon you will [L Look, the day is approaching for you to] die. ·Get [Call] Joshua and ·come [present him] to the Meeting Tent so that I may command him.” So Moses and Joshua ·went to [presented themselves at] the Meeting Tent.
15 The Lord appeared at the Meeting Tent in a pillar of cloud; the pillar of cloud stood over the entrance of the Tent [C representing the presence of God; Ex. 13:21; 40:34–38]. 16 And the Lord said to Moses, “You will soon ·die [L lie down/T sleep with your fathers]. Then these people will ·not be loyal to me but will worship [L prostitute themselves with] the foreign gods of the land they are entering. They will ·leave [abandon; forsake] me, breaking the ·Agreement [Covenant; Treaty] I ·made [L cut] with them. 17 ·Then [L On that day] I will become very angry at them, and I will ·leave [abandon; forsake] them. I will ·turn away [L hide my face] from them, and they will be ·destroyed [devoured; consumed]. Many terrible things will happen to them. ·Then [L On that day] they will say, ‘·It is [L Is it not…?] because God is not with us that these terrible things are happening.’ 18 I will surely ·turn away [L hide my face] from them ·then [L on that day], because they have done wrong and have turned to other gods.
19 “Now write down this song and teach it to the ·Israelites [L sons/T children of Israel]. ·Then have them sing it [L Place it in their mouth], because it will be my witness against ·them [L the sons/T children of Israel]. 20 When I bring them into the land I ·promised [swore] to their ·ancestors [fathers], a ·fertile land [L land flowing with milk and honey; Ex. 3:8], they will eat as much as they want and get fat. Then they will turn to other gods and serve them. They will ·reject [despise] me and break my ·Agreement [Covenant; Treaty]. 21 Then when many troubles and terrible things happen to them, this song will testify against them, because the song will not be forgotten by their ·descendants [L seed]. I know what they ·plan [incline; Gen. 6:5; 8:21] to do, even before I take them into the land I ·promised [swore to] them.” 22 So Moses wrote down the song that day, and he taught it to the ·Israelites [L sons/T children of Israel].
23 Then the Lord gave this command to Joshua son of Nun: “Be strong and ·brave [courageous; Josh. 1:6–9], because you will lead the people of Israel to the land I promised them, and I will be with you [Ex. 3:12].”
24 After Moses finished writing all the words of the ·teachings [laws; instructions] in a ·book [scroll], 25 he gave a command to the Levites, who carried the Ark of the ·Agreement [Treaty; Covenant; Ex. 25:10] with the Lord. 26 He said, “Take this ·Book [Scroll] of the ·Teachings [Laws; Instructions] and put it beside the Ark of the ·Agreement [Treaty; Covenant; Ex. 25:10] with the Lord your God. It must stay there as a witness against you. 27 I know how ·stubborn [L stiff-necked] and ·disobedient [rebellious] you are. You have ·disobeyed [rebelled against] the Lord while I am alive and with you, and you will ·disobey [rebel against me] even more after I die! 28 ·Gather [Assemble] all the elders of your tribes and all your ·officers [scribes] to me so that I may say these things ·for them to hear [L in their ears], and so that I may ask heaven and earth to ·testify [witness] against them [30:19]. 29 I know that after I die you will become completely ·evil [corrupt]. You will turn away from the ·commands I have given [L way I commanded] you. Terrible things will happen to you in the future when you do what the Lord says is evil, and you will make him angry with the ·idols you have made [L work of your hands].”

31 And Moses went and spake these words unto all Israel. 2 And he said unto them, I am a hundred and twenty years old this day; I can no more go out and come in: and Jehovah hath said unto me, Thou shalt not go over this Jordan. 3 Jehovah thy God, he will go over before thee; he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt dispossess them: and Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as Jehovah hath spoken. 4 And Jehovah will do unto them as he did to Sihon and to Og, the kings of the Amorites, and unto their land; whom he destroyed. 5 And Jehovah will deliver them up before you, and ye shall do unto them according unto all the commandment which I have commanded you. 6 Be strong and of good courage, fear not, nor be affrighted at them: for Jehovah thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. 7 And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of good courage: for thou shalt go with this people into the land which Jehovah hath sworn unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them to inherit it. 8 And Jehovah, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.
9 And Moses wrote this law, and delivered it unto the priests the sons of Levi, that bare the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, and unto all the elders of Israel. 10 And Moses commanded them, saying, At the end of every seven years, in the set time of the year of release, in the feast of tabernacles, 11 when all Israel is come to appear before Jehovah thy God in the place which he shall choose, thou shalt read this law before all Israel in their hearing. 12 Assemble the people, the men and the women and the little ones, and thy sojourner that is within thy gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear Jehovah your God, and observe to do all the words of this law; 13 and that their children, who have not known, may hear, and learn to fear Jehovah your God, as long as ye live in the land whither ye go over the Jordan to possess it.
14 And Jehovah said unto Moses, Behold, thy days approach that thou must die: call Joshua, and present yourselves in the tent of meeting, that I may give him a charge. And Moses and Joshua went, and presented themselves in the tent of meeting. 15 And Jehovah appeared in the Tent in a pillar of cloud: and the pillar of cloud stood [a]over the door of the Tent. 16 And Jehovah said unto Moses, Behold, thou shalt sleep with thy fathers; and this people will rise up, and play the harlot after the strange gods of the land, whither they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break my covenant which I have made with them. 17 Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall come upon them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come upon us because our God is not among us? 18 And I will surely hide my face in that day for all the evil which they shall have wrought, in that they are turned unto other gods. 19 Now therefore write ye this song for you, and teach thou it the children of Israel: put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for me against the children of Israel. 20 For when I shall have brought them into the land which I sware unto their fathers, flowing with milk and honey, and they shall have eaten and filled themselves, and waxed fat; then will they turn unto other gods, and serve them, and despise me, and break my covenant. 21 And it shall come to pass, when many evils and troubles are come upon them, that this song shall testify before them as a witness; for it shall not be forgotten out of the mouths of their seed: for I know their imagination which they frame this day, before I have brought them into the land which I sware. 22 So Moses wrote this song the same day, and taught it the children of Israel. 23 And he gave Joshua the son of Nun a charge, and said, Be strong and of good courage; for thou shalt bring the children of Israel into the land which I sware unto them: and I will be with thee.

30 And Moses spake in the ears of all the assembly of Israel the words of this song, until they were finished.
