Blessings for Obedience
28 “Now if you faithfully obey the Lord your God and are careful to follow all His commands I am giving you today, the Lord your God will put you far above all the nations of the earth.(A) 2 All these blessings will come and overtake you, because you obey the Lord your God:
3 You will be blessed in the city
and blessed in the country.
4 Your descendants[a] will be blessed,
and your land’s produce,
and the offspring of your livestock,
including the young of your herds
and the newborn of your flocks.(B)
5 Your basket and kneading bowl will be blessed.
6 You will be blessed when you come in
and blessed when you go out.
7 “The Lord will cause the enemies who rise up against you to be defeated before you. They will march out against you from one direction but flee from you in seven directions. 8 The Lord will grant you a blessing on your storehouses and on everything you do;[b] He will bless you in the land the Lord your God is giving you. 9 The Lord will establish you as His holy people,(C) as He swore to you, if you obey the commands of the Lord your God and walk in His ways. 10 Then all the peoples of the earth will see that you are called by Yahweh’s name, and they will stand in awe of you. 11 The Lord will make you prosper abundantly with children,[c] the offspring of your livestock, and your land’s produce in the land the Lord swore to your fathers to give you. 12 The Lord will open for you His abundant storehouse, the sky, to give your land rain in its season and to bless all the work of your hands.(D) You will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow. 13 The Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you will only move upward and never downward if you listen to the Lord your God’s commands I am giving you today and are careful to follow them. 14 Do not turn aside to the right or the left from all the things I am commanding you today, and do not go after other gods to worship them.
Curses for Disobedience
15 “But if you do not obey the Lord your God by carefully following all His commands and statutes I am giving you today, all these curses will come and overtake you:(E)
16 You will be cursed in the city
and cursed in the country.
17 Your basket and kneading bowl will be cursed.
18 Your descendants[d] will be cursed,
and your land’s produce,
the young of your herds,
and the newborn of your flocks.
19 You will be cursed when you come in
and cursed when you go out.
20 The Lord will send against you curses, confusion, and rebuke in everything you do[e] until you are destroyed and quickly perish, because of the wickedness of your actions in abandoning Me. 21 The Lord will make pestilence cling to you until He has exterminated you from the land you are entering to possess. 22 The Lord will afflict you with wasting disease, fever, inflammation, burning heat, drought,[f] blight, and mildew; these will pursue you until you perish. 23 The sky above you will be bronze, and the earth beneath you iron. 24 The Lord will turn the rain of your land into falling[g] dust; it will descend on you from the sky until you are destroyed. 25 The Lord will cause you to be defeated before your enemies. You will march out against them from one direction but flee from them in seven directions. You will be an object of horror to all the kingdoms of the earth. 26 Your corpses will be food for all the birds of the sky and the wild animals of the land, with no one to scare them away.(F)
27 “The Lord will afflict you with the boils of Egypt, tumors, a festering rash, and scabies, from which you cannot be cured. 28 The Lord will afflict you with madness, blindness, and mental confusion, 29 so that at noon you will grope as a blind man gropes in the dark.(G) You will not be successful in anything you do. You will only be oppressed and robbed continually, and no one will help you. 30 You will become engaged to a woman, but another man will rape her. You will build a house but not live in it. You will plant a vineyard but not enjoy its fruit. 31 Your ox will be slaughtered before your eyes, but you will not eat any of it. Your donkey will be taken away from you and not returned to you. Your flock will be given to your enemies, and no one will help you. 32 Your sons and daughters will be given to another people, while your eyes grow weary looking for them every day. But you will be powerless to do anything.[h] 33 A people you don’t know will eat your land’s produce and everything you have labored for. You will only be oppressed and crushed continually. 34 You will be driven mad by what you see. 35 The Lord will afflict you with painful and incurable boils on your knees and thighs—from the sole of your foot to the top of your head.(H)
36 “The Lord will bring you and your king that you have appointed to a nation neither you nor your fathers have known, and there you will worship other gods, of wood and stone. 37 You will become an object of horror, scorn, and ridicule among all the peoples where the Lord will drive you.(I)
38 “You will sow much seed in the field but harvest little, because locusts will devour it. 39 You will plant and cultivate vineyards but not drink the wine or gather the grapes, because worms will eat them. 40 You will have olive trees throughout your territory but not anoint yourself with oil, because your olives will drop off. 41 You will father sons and daughters, but they will not remain yours, because they will be taken prisoner. 42 Whirring insects will take possession of all your trees and your land’s produce. 43 The foreign resident among you will rise higher and higher above you, while you sink lower and lower. 44 He will lend to you, but you won’t lend to him. He will be the head, and you will be the tail.
45 “All these curses will come, pursue, and overtake you until you are destroyed, since you did not obey the Lord your God and keep the commands and statutes He gave you. 46 These curses will be a sign and a wonder against you and your descendants forever. 47 Because you didn’t serve the Lord your God with joy and a cheerful heart, even though you had an abundance of everything, 48 you will serve your enemies the Lord will send against you, in famine, thirst, nakedness, and a lack of everything. He will place an iron yoke(J) on your neck until He has destroyed you. 49 The Lord will bring a nation from far away, from the ends of the earth, to swoop down on you like an eagle, a nation whose language you don’t understand, 50 a ruthless nation,[i] showing no respect for the old and not sparing the young. 51 They will eat the offspring of your livestock and your land’s produce until you are destroyed. They will leave you no grain, new wine, oil, young of your herds, or newborn of your flocks until they cause you to perish. 52 They will besiege you within all your gates until your high and fortified walls, that you trust in, come down throughout your land. They will besiege you within all your gates throughout the land the Lord your God has given you.
53 “You will eat your children,[j] the flesh of your sons and daughters the Lord your God has given you(K) during the siege and hardship your enemy imposes on you. 54 The most sensitive and refined man among you will look grudgingly[k] at his brother, the wife he embraces,[l] and the rest of his children, 55 refusing to share with any of them his children’s flesh that he will eat because he has nothing left during the siege and hardship your enemy imposes on you in all your towns. 56 The most sensitive and refined woman among you, who would not venture to set the sole of her foot on the ground because of her refinement and sensitivity, will begrudge the husband she embraces, her son, and her daughter, 57 the afterbirth that comes out from between her legs and the children she bears, because she will secretly eat them for lack of anything else during the siege and hardship your enemy imposes on you within your gates.
58 “If you are not careful to obey all the words of this law, which are written in this scroll, by fearing this glorious and awesome name—Yahweh, your God— 59 He will bring extraordinary plagues on you and your descendants, severe and lasting plagues, and terrible and chronic sicknesses. 60 He will afflict you again with all the diseases of Egypt, which you dreaded, and they will cling to you. 61 The Lord will also afflict you with every sickness and plague not recorded in the book of this law, until you are destroyed. 62 Though you were as numerous as the stars of the sky, you will be left with only a few people, because you did not obey the Lord your God. 63 Just as the Lord was glad to cause you to prosper and to multiply you, so He will also be glad to cause you to perish and to destroy you. You will be deported from the land you are entering to possess. 64 Then the Lord will scatter you among all peoples from one end of the earth to the other, and there you will worship other gods, of wood and stone, which neither you nor your fathers have known. 65 You will find no peace among those nations, and there will be no resting place(L) for the sole of your foot. There the Lord will give you a trembling heart, failing eyes, and a despondent spirit. 66 Your life will hang in doubt before you. You will be in dread night and day, never certain of survival. 67 In the morning you will say, ‘If only it were evening!’ and in the evening you will say, ‘If only it were morning!’—because of the dread you will have in your heart and because of what you will see. 68 The Lord will take you back in ships to Egypt by a route that I said you would never see again.(M) There you will sell yourselves to your enemies as male and female slaves, but no one will buy you.”

28 「你們若全心順服你們的上帝耶和華，謹遵祂今天藉我吩咐你們的一切誡命，祂必使你們超越天下萬國。 2 你們若聽從你們的上帝耶和華的話，以下的福氣必臨到你們，追隨你們。
3 「無論你們住在城裡還是鄉村，都必蒙福。
4 「你們必子孫昌盛，五穀豐登，牛羊成群。
5 「你們的籃子和揉麵盆都必蒙福。
6 「你們必出入平安。
7 「耶和華必使來犯之敵敗在你們面前、潰不成軍、四散逃命。
8 「耶和華必使你們凡事蒙福、五穀滿倉。你們的上帝耶和華必在祂賜給你們的土地上賜福你們。
9 「你們若遵守你們上帝耶和華的誡命，遵行祂的旨意，祂必按自己的誓言使你們成為祂聖潔的子民。 10 天下萬民將看出你們是耶和華的子民，並懼怕你們。

違背誡命受咒詛
15 「你們若不聽從你們的上帝耶和華，不謹遵祂今天藉我吩咐你們的一切誡命和律例，祂必使以下的咒詛臨到你們。
16 「無論你們住在城裡還是鄉村，都必受咒詛。
17 「你們的籃子和揉麵盆都必受咒詛。
18 「婦女所生的，土地所產的，牛羊所生的都必受咒詛。
19 「你們出入都必受咒詛。
20 「因為你們背棄耶和華，祂要使你們凡事受咒詛、混亂不堪、飽受責罰，直到你們被毀滅，迅速滅亡。
21 「祂要使瘟疫緊緊跟隨你們，直到你們在將要佔領的土地上被滅絕。
22 「祂要使你們遭受癆病、熱症、瘧疾、炙熱、刀劍、乾旱和黴爛之災，直到你們滅亡。
23 「祂要使你們頭頂的天如銅，腳下的地如鐵。
24 「祂要使雨水變為塵土，降在你們身上，直到你們滅亡。

35 「耶和華要使你們從頭到腳長滿毒瘡，無藥可治。
36 「耶和華要帶你們和你們的王到一個你們和你們祖先都不知道的國家，你們要在那裡供奉木石神像。
37 「在耶和華驅逐你們去的列國，你們的下場將很可怕，受盡嘲笑和譏諷。
38 「你們種的多，卻收的少，因為莊稼必被蝗蟲吃掉。
39 「你們栽種、修剪葡萄園，卻吃不到葡萄，也喝不到葡萄酒，因為葡萄必被蟲子吃掉。
40 「你們境內長滿橄欖樹，卻沒有橄欖油抹身，因為橄欖必未熟先落。
41 「你們生兒育女，卻留不住一個，因為他們必被擄走。
42 「蝗蟲要吃光你們的樹木和地上的出產。
43 「你們中間的外族人要日益興旺，你們卻要日漸衰微。
44 「他們要借貸給你們，你們卻不能借貸給他們。他們要做首，你們要做尾。

53 「當你們被敵人圍困、陷入絕境時，你們必吃自己的親生骨肉——你們的上帝耶和華賜給你們的兒女。 54-55 因為被敵人困在城中，饑餓難熬，連你們中間最溫柔體貼的男人也要獨自吞吃子女的肉，不肯分給自己的兄弟、愛妻和剩下的兒女。 56-57 因為被敵人困在城中，饑餓難熬，連你們中間最溫柔、嬌嫩得連腳也不肯踏在地上的婦女，都要偷偷吃掉自己生的嬰兒和胎胞，不肯分給所愛的丈夫和子女。
58 「如果你們不謹遵這書上所寫的一切律法，不敬畏你們的上帝耶和華那榮耀、可畏的名， 59 祂必使你們及子孫遭遇嚴重而長久的災難和疾病， 60 使你們所懼怕的埃及人的疾病都降在你們身上，纏擾你們， 61 還使一切未記在這律法書上的疾病和災難降在你們身上，直到消滅你們。 62 如果你們不聽從你們的上帝耶和華的話，即使你們的人數多如天上的星，也將所剩無幾。 63 正如耶和華喜歡賜福你們，使你們人丁興旺，祂也同樣會不惜消滅你們，使你們在將要佔領的土地上滅亡。

Blessings for Obedience
28 If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow(A) all his commands(B) I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth.(C) 2 All these blessings will come on you(D) and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God:
3 You will be blessed(E) in the city and blessed in the country.(F)
4 The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks.(G)
5 Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed.
6 You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.(H)
7 The Lord will grant that the enemies(I) who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven.(J)
8 The Lord will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The Lord your God will bless(K) you in the land he is giving you.
9 The Lord will establish you as his holy people,(L) as he promised you on oath, if you keep the commands(M) of the Lord your God and walk in obedience to him. 10 Then all the peoples on earth will see that you are called by the name(N) of the Lord, and they will fear you. 11 The Lord will grant you abundant prosperity—in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock(O) and the crops of your ground—in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you.(P)
12 The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse(Q) of his bounty,(R) to send rain(S) on your land in season and to bless(T) all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none.(U) 13 The Lord will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the Lord your God that I give you this day and carefully follow(V) them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom.(W) 14 Do not turn aside from any of the commands I give you today, to the right or to the left,(X) following other gods and serving them.
Curses for Disobedience
15 However, if you do not obey(Y) the Lord your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today,(Z) all these curses will come on you and overtake you:(AA)
16 You will be cursed in the city and cursed in the country.(AB)
17 Your basket and your kneading trough will be cursed.(AC)
18 The fruit of your womb will be cursed, and the crops of your land, and the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks.(AD)
19 You will be cursed when you come in and cursed when you go out.(AE)
20 The Lord will send on you curses,(AF) confusion and rebuke(AG) in everything you put your hand to, until you are destroyed and come to sudden ruin(AH) because of the evil(AI) you have done in forsaking him.[a] 21 The Lord will plague you with diseases until he has destroyed you from the land you are entering to possess.(AJ) 22 The Lord will strike you with wasting disease,(AK) with fever and inflammation, with scorching heat and drought,(AL) with blight(AM) and mildew, which will plague(AN) you until you perish.(AO) 23 The sky over your head will be bronze, the ground beneath you iron.(AP) 24 The Lord will turn the rain(AQ) of your country into dust and powder; it will come down from the skies until you are destroyed.
25 The Lord will cause you to be defeated(AR) before your enemies. You will come at them from one direction but flee from them in seven,(AS) and you will become a thing of horror(AT) to all the kingdoms on earth.(AU) 26 Your carcasses will be food for all the birds(AV) and the wild animals, and there will be no one to frighten them away.(AW) 27 The Lord will afflict you with the boils of Egypt(AX) and with tumors, festering sores and the itch, from which you cannot be cured. 28 The Lord will afflict you with madness, blindness and confusion of mind. 29 At midday you will grope(AY) about like a blind person in the dark. You will be unsuccessful in everything you do; day after day you will be oppressed and robbed, with no one to rescue(AZ) you.
30 You will be pledged to be married to a woman, but another will take her and rape her.(BA) You will build a house, but you will not live in it.(BB) You will plant a vineyard, but you will not even begin to enjoy its fruit.(BC) 31 Your ox will be slaughtered before your eyes, but you will eat none of it. Your donkey will be forcibly taken from you and will not be returned. Your sheep will be given to your enemies, and no one will rescue them. 32 Your sons and daughters will be given to another nation,(BD) and you will wear out your eyes watching for them day after day, powerless to lift a hand. 33 A people that you do not know will eat what your land and labor produce, and you will have nothing but cruel oppression(BE) all your days.(BF) 34 The sights you see will drive you mad.(BG) 35 The Lord will afflict your knees and legs with painful boils(BH) that cannot be cured, spreading from the soles of your feet to the top of your head.(BI)
36 The Lord will drive you and the king(BJ) you set over you to a nation unknown to you or your ancestors.(BK) There you will worship other gods, gods of wood and stone.(BL) 37 You will become a thing of horror,(BM) a byword(BN) and an object of ridicule(BO) among all the peoples where the Lord will drive you.(BP)
38 You will sow much seed in the field but you will harvest little,(BQ) because locusts(BR) will devour(BS) it. 39 You will plant vineyards and cultivate them but you will not drink the wine(BT) or gather the grapes, because worms will eat(BU) them.(BV) 40 You will have olive trees throughout your country but you will not use the oil, because the olives will drop off.(BW) 41 You will have sons and daughters but you will not keep them, because they will go into captivity.(BX) 42 Swarms of locusts(BY) will take over all your trees and the crops of your land.
43 The foreigners who reside among you will rise above you higher and higher, but you will sink lower and lower.(BZ) 44 They will lend to you, but you will not lend to them.(CA) They will be the head, but you will be the tail.(CB)
45 All these curses will come on you. They will pursue you and overtake you(CC) until you are destroyed,(CD) because you did not obey the Lord your God and observe the commands and decrees he gave you. 46 They will be a sign and a wonder to you and your descendants forever.(CE) 47 Because you did not serve(CF) the Lord your God joyfully and gladly(CG) in the time of prosperity, 48 therefore in hunger and thirst,(CH) in nakedness and dire poverty, you will serve the enemies the Lord sends against you. He will put an iron yoke(CI) on your neck(CJ) until he has destroyed you.
49 The Lord will bring a nation against you(CK) from far away, from the ends of the earth,(CL) like an eagle(CM) swooping down, a nation whose language you will not understand,(CN) 50 a fierce-looking nation without respect for the old(CO) or pity for the young. 51 They will devour the young of your livestock and the crops of your land until you are destroyed. They will leave you no grain, new wine(CP) or olive oil,(CQ) nor any calves of your herds or lambs of your flocks until you are ruined.(CR) 52 They will lay siege(CS) to all the cities throughout your land until the high fortified walls in which you trust fall down. They will besiege all the cities throughout the land the Lord your God is giving you.(CT)
53 Because of the suffering your enemy will inflict on you during the siege, you will eat the fruit of the womb, the flesh of the sons and daughters the Lord your God has given you.(CU) 54 Even the most gentle and sensitive man among you will have no compassion on his own brother or the wife he loves or his surviving children, 55 and he will not give to one of them any of the flesh of his children that he is eating. It will be all he has left because of the suffering your enemy will inflict on you during the siege of all your cities.(CV) 56 The most gentle and sensitive(CW) woman among you—so sensitive and gentle that she would not venture to touch the ground with the sole of her foot—will begrudge the husband she loves and her own son or daughter(CX) 57 the afterbirth from her womb and the children she bears. For in her dire need she intends to eat them(CY) secretly because of the suffering your enemy will inflict on you during the siege of your cities.
58 If you do not carefully follow all the words of this law,(CZ) which are written in this book, and do not revere(DA) this glorious and awesome name(DB)—the Lord your God— 59 the Lord will send fearful plagues on you and your descendants, harsh and prolonged disasters, and severe and lingering illnesses. 60 He will bring on you all the diseases of Egypt(DC) that you dreaded, and they will cling to you. 61 The Lord will also bring on you every kind of sickness and disaster not recorded in this Book of the Law,(DD) until you are destroyed.(DE) 62 You who were as numerous as the stars in the sky(DF) will be left but few(DG) in number, because you did not obey the Lord your God. 63 Just as it pleased(DH) the Lord to make you prosper and increase in number, so it will please(DI) him to ruin and destroy you.(DJ) You will be uprooted(DK) from the land you are entering to possess.
64 Then the Lord will scatter(DL) you among all nations,(DM) from one end of the earth to the other.(DN) There you will worship other gods—gods of wood and stone, which neither you nor your ancestors have known.(DO) 65 Among those nations you will find no repose, no resting place(DP) for the sole of your foot. There the Lord will give you an anxious mind, eyes(DQ) weary with longing, and a despairing heart.(DR) 66 You will live in constant suspense, filled with dread both night and day, never sure of your life. 67 In the morning you will say, “If only it were evening!” and in the evening, “If only it were morning!”—because of the terror that will fill your hearts and the sights that your eyes will see.(DS) 68 The Lord will send you back in ships to Egypt on a journey I said you should never make again.(DT) There you will offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as male and female slaves, but no one will buy you.

28 «Ora, se tu ubbidisci diligentemente alla voce dell'Eterno, il tuo DIO, avendo cura di mettere in pratica tutti i suoi comandamenti che oggi ti prescrivo, avverrà che l'Eterno, il tuo DIO, ti innalzerà sopra tutte le nazioni della terra;
2 tutte queste benedizioni verranno su di te e ti raggiungeranno, se ascolterai la voce dell'Eterno, il tuo DIO:
3 Sarai benedetto nelle città e sarai benedetto nella campagna.
4 Benedetto sarà il frutto del tuo grembo, il frutto del tuo suolo e il frutto del tuo bestiame, i parti delle tue vacche e il frutto delle tue pecore.
5 Benedetti saranno il tuo paniere e la tua madia.
6 Sarai benedetto quando entri e benedetto quando esci.
7 L'Eterno farà si che i tuoi nemici, che si levano contro di te, siano sconfitti davanti a te; usciranno contro di te per una via, ma fuggiranno davanti a te per sette vie.
8 L'Eterno ordinerà alla benedizione di esser sopra di te nei tuoi granai e in tutto ciò a cui metterai mano; e ti benedirà nel paese che l'Eterno, il tuo DIO, ti dà.
9 L'Eterno ti stabilirà per essere per lui un popolo santo, come ti ha giurato, se osservi i comandamenti dell'Eterno, il tuo DIO, e se cammini nelle sue vie;
10 così tutti i popoli della terra vedranno che su di te è invocato il nome dell'Eterno e ti temeranno.
11 L'Eterno, il tuo DIO, ti colmerà di beni, nel frutto del tuo grembo, nel frutto del tuo bestiame e nel frutto del tuo suolo nel paese che l'Eterno giurò ai tuoi padri di darti.
12 L'Eterno aprirà per te il suo buon tesoro, il cielo, per dare alla tua terra la pioggia a suo tempo e per benedire tutta l'opera delle tue mani; tu presterai a molte nazioni, ma non prenderai nulla in prestito.
13 L'Eterno ti farà essere la testa e non la coda, e sarai sempre in alto e mai in basso, se ubbidisci ai comandamenti dell'Eterno, il tuo DIO, che oggi ti prescrivo perché li osservi e li metta in pratica.
14 Così non devierai né a destra né a sinistra da alcuna delle parole che oggi vi comando, per seguire altri dèi, per servirli.
15 Ma se non ubbidisci alla voce dell'Eterno, il tuo DIO, per osservare con cura tutti i suoi comandamenti e tutti i suoi statuti che oggi ti prescrivo avverrà che tutte queste maledizioni verranno su di te e ti raggiungeranno.
16 Sarai maledetto nella città e sarai maledetto nella campagna.
17 Maledetti saranno il tuo paniere e la tua madia.
18 Maledetto sarà il frutto del tuo grembo, il frutto del tuo suolo, i parti delle tue vacche e il frutto delle tue pecore.
19 Sarai maledetto quando entri e maledetto quando esci.
20 L'Eterno manderà contro di te la maledizione, la confusione e la disapprovazione in ogni cosa a cui metterai mano e che farai, finché tu sia distrutto e tu perisca rapidamente, a motivo della malvagità delle tue azioni nelle quali mi hai abbandonato.
21 L'Eterno farà si che la peste si attacchi a te, finché ti abbia consumato nel paese che stai per entrare ad occupare.
22 L'Eterno ti colpirà con la consunzione, con la febbre, con l'infiammazione, con il caldo bruciante, con la spada, con il carbonchio e con la ruggine, che ti perseguiteranno fino alla tua distruzione.
23 Il cielo sopra il tuo capo sarà di rame e la terra sotto di te sarà di ferro.
24 L'Eterno muterà la pioggia del tuo paese in sabbia e polvere, che cadranno su di te finché tu sia distrutto.
25 L'Eterno ti abbandonerà alla disfatta e al massacro davanti ai tuoi nemici; uscirai contro di loro per una via e per sette vie fuggirai davanti a loro, e tu diventerai un oggetto di orrore a tutti i regni della terra.
26 I tuoi cadaveri saranno cibo a tutti gli uccelli del cielo e alle bestie della terra, e nessuno li scaccerà
27 L'Eterno ti colpirà con l'ulcera d'Egitto, con le emorroidi, con la scabbia e con la tigna, di cui non potrai guarire.
28 L'Eterno ti colpirà di pazzia, di cecità e di smarrimento di cuore;
29 e andrai brancolando in pieno giorno, come il cieco brancola nel buio; non prospererai nelle tue vie, ma sarai solo oppresso e spogliato continuamente senza nessuno che ti aiuti.
30 Ti fidanzerai con una donna, ma un altro si coricherà con lei; costruirai una casa, ma non vi abiterai; pianterai una vigna, ma non ne coglierai l'uva.
31 Il tuo bue sarà ammazzato sotto i tuoi occhi, ma tu non ne mangerai; il tuo asino sarà portato via in tua presenza e non ti sarà reso; le tue pecore saranno date ai tuoi nemici senza nessuno che ti aiuti.
32 I tuoi figli e le tue figlie saranno dati a un altro popolo; i tuoi occhi guarderanno e si struggeranno di desiderio per loro tutto il giorno, e la tua mano sarà senza forza.
33 Un popolo, che tu non hai conosciuto, mangerà il frutto della tua terra e di tutte le tue fatiche, e sarai certamente oppresso e schiacciato del continuo.
34 Ti verrà così di impazzire allo spettacolo che i tuoi occhi vedranno.
35 L'Eterno ti colpirà sulle ginocchia e sulle coscie con un'ulcera maligna, della quale non potrai guarire, dalla pianta dei piedi alla sommità del capo.
36 L'Eterno porterà te e il tuo re, che hai costituito sopra di te, in una nazione che né tu né i tuoi padri avete conosciuto; e là servirai altri dèi di legno e di pietra;
37 e diventerai oggetto di stupore, di proverbio e di scherno in mezzo a tutti i popoli fra i quali l'Eterno ti condurrà.
38 Porterai molta semente al campo ma raccoglierai poco, perché la locusta la divorerà.
39 Pianterai vigne, le coltiverai, ma non berrai vino né coglierai uva, perché il verme le roderà.
40 Avrai ulivi in tutto il tuo territorio ma non ti ungerai di olio, perché le tue olive cadranno.
41 Genererai figli e figlie, ma non saranno tuoi, perché andranno in schiavitú.
42 Tutti i tuoi alberi e i frutti del tuo suolo saranno preda della locusta.
43 Lo straniero che è in mezzo a te si eleverà sempre piú in alto sopra di te, e tu scenderai sempre piú in basso.
44 Egli presterà a te, ma tu non presterai a lui; egli sarà la testa e tu la coda.
45 Tutte queste maledizioni verranno su di te, ti perseguiteranno e ti raggiungeranno, finché tu sia distrutto, perché non hai ubbidito alla voce dell'Eterno, il tuo DIO, osservando i comandamenti e gli statuti che egli ti ha ordinato.
46 Essi saranno come un segno e come un prodigio per te e per i tuoi discendenti, per sempre.
47 Poiché non hai servito l'Eterno, il tuo DIO, con gioia e allegrezza di cuore per l'abbondanza di ogni cosa,
48 servirai i tuoi nemici che l'Eterno manderà contro di te, in mezzo alla fame, alla sete, alla nudità e alla mancanza di ogni cosa; ed egli metterà un giogo di ferro sul tuo collo, finché ti abbia distrutto.
49 L'Eterno farà venire contro di te da lontano, dalle estremità della terra, una nazione veloce come l'aquila che vola, una nazione di cui non comprenderai la lingua,
50 una nazione dall'aspetto feroce che non avrà rispetto dell'anziano né avrà pietà del fanciullo,
51 e mangerà il frutto del tuo bestiame e il prodotto del tuo suolo, finché tu sia distrutto; e non ti lascerà né frumento né mosto né olio né i parti delle tue vacche o i nati delle tue pecore, finché ti abbia distrutto.
52 E ti assedierà in tutte le tue città, finché in tutto il tuo paese le mura alte e fortificate, nelle quali riponevi la tua fiducia, cadranno. Ti assedierà in tutte le tue città, in tutto il paese che l'Eterno, il tuo DIO, ti ha dato.
53 Inoltre durante l'assedio e nell'avversità a cui ti ridurrà il tuo nemico, mangerai il frutto del tuo grembo, la carne dei tuoi figli e delle tue figlie, che l'Eterno, il tuo DIO, ti ha dato.
54 L'uomo piú tenero e piú raffinato avrà un cuore così malvagio verso suo fratello, verso la donna che riposa sul suo seno e verso i figli che ancora gli rimangono,
55 da non dare ad alcuno di loro la carne dei suoi figli, che egli mangerà, perché non gli sarà rimasto piú nulla nell'assedio e nell'avversità a cui ti ridurranno i tuoi nemici in tutte le tue città.
56 La donna piú tenera e piú raffinata tra voi, che per la sua raffinatezza e delicatezza non si sarebbe azzardata a posare la pianta del suo piede in terra, avrà un cuore malvagio verso il marito che le riposa sul seno, verso suo figlio e verso sua figlia,
57 e verso la placenta che esce dal suo grembo e verso i figli che partorisce, perché essa li mangerà di nascosto, nella mancanza di tutto, durante l'assedio e la grande calamità, a cui ti sottoporranno i tuoi nemici in tutte le tue città.
58 Se non hai cura di mettere in pratica tutte le parole di questa legge, scritte in questo libro, avendo timore di questo nome glorioso e tremendo, l'Eterno, il tuo DIO,
59 allora l'Eterno rovescerà su di te e sui tuoi discendenti indescrivibili calamità, calamità grandi e durature, e malattie maligne e ostinate;
60 inoltre farà tornare su di te tutte le malattie d'Egitto, di cui avevi paura, e si attaccheranno a te.
61 Anche tutte le malattie e tutte le calamità non scritte nel libro di questa legge, l'Eterno le farà venir su di te, finché tu sia distrutto.
62 Così voi rimarrete in pochi, dopo essere stati numerosi come le stelle del cielo, perché non hai ubbidito alla voce dell'Eterno, il tuo DIO.
63 E avverrà che, come l'Eterno prendeva piacere nel farvi del bene e nel moltiplicarvi, così l'Eterno prenderà piacere nel farvi perire e nel distruggervi; e sarete strappati dal paese che entri ad occupare.
64 L'Eterno ti disperderà fra tutti i popoli, da un'estremità all'atra della terra; e là servirai altri dèi, che né tu né i tuoi padri avete mai conosciuto, di legno e di pietra.
65 E fra quelle nazioni non troverai requie e non vi sarà luogo di riposo per la pianta dei tuoi piedi; là l'Eterno ti darà un cuore tremante, occhi che si struggono e angoscia d'anima.
66 La tua vita ti starà davanti come sospesa nell'incertezza; tremerai notte e giorno e non avrai alcuna sicurezza della tua esistenza.
67 La mattina dirai: "Fosse sera!", e la sera dirai: "Fosse mattina!", a motivo dello spavento che riempirà il tuo cuore ed a motivo dello spettacolo che i tuoi occhi vedranno.
68 E l'Eterno ti farà tornare in Egitto su navi, per la via di cui ti avevo detto: "Non la rivedrai mai piú!". E là sarete offerti in vendita ai vostri nemici come schiavi e come schiave, ma nessuno vi comprerà».

2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God.
3 Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.
4 Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.
5 Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store.
6 Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.
7 The Lord shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways.
8 The Lord shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
9 The Lord shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the Lord thy God, and walk in his ways.

15 But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:
16 Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field.
17 Cursed shall be thy basket and thy store.
18 Cursed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy land, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.
19 Cursed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and cursed shalt thou be when thou goest out.
20 The Lord shall send upon thee cursing, vexation, and rebuke, in all that thou settest thine hand unto for to do, until thou be destroyed, and until thou perish quickly; because of the wickedness of thy doings, whereby thou hast forsaken me.
21 The Lord shall make the pestilence cleave unto thee, until he have consumed thee from off the land, whither thou goest to possess it.
22 The Lord shall smite thee with a consumption, and with a fever, and with an inflammation, and with an extreme burning, and with the sword, and with blasting, and with mildew; and they shall pursue thee until thou perish.
23 And thy heaven that is over thy head shall be brass, and the earth that is under thee shall be iron.
24 The Lord shall make the rain of thy land powder and dust: from heaven shall it come down upon thee, until thou be destroyed.
25 The Lord shall cause thee to be smitten before thine enemies: thou shalt go out one way against them, and flee seven ways before them: and shalt be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.
26 And thy carcase shall be meat unto all fowls of the air, and unto the beasts of the earth, and no man shall fray them away.
27 The Lord will smite thee with the botch of Egypt, and with the emerods, and with the scab, and with the itch, whereof thou canst not be healed.
28 The Lord shall smite thee with madness, and blindness, and astonishment of heart:
29 And thou shalt grope at noonday, as the blind gropeth in darkness, and thou shalt not prosper in thy ways: and thou shalt be only oppressed and spoiled evermore, and no man shall save thee.
30 Thou shalt betroth a wife, and another man shall lie with her: thou shalt build an house, and thou shalt not dwell therein: thou shalt plant a vineyard, and shalt not gather the grapes thereof.
31 Thine ox shall be slain before thine eyes, and thou shalt not eat thereof: thine ass shall be violently taken away from before thy face, and shall not be restored to thee: thy sheep shall be given unto thine enemies, and thou shalt have none to rescue them.
32 Thy sons and thy daughters shall be given unto another people, and thine eyes shall look, and fail with longing for them all the day long; and there shall be no might in thine hand.
33 The fruit of thy land, and all thy labours, shall a nation which thou knowest not eat up; and thou shalt be only oppressed and crushed alway:
34 So that thou shalt be mad for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see.
35 The Lord shall smite thee in the knees, and in the legs, with a sore botch that cannot be healed, from the sole of thy foot unto the top of thy head.
36 The Lord shall bring thee, and thy king which thou shalt set over thee, unto a nation which neither thou nor thy fathers have known; and there shalt thou serve other gods, wood and stone.
37 And thou shalt become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword, among all nations whither the Lord shall lead thee.
38 Thou shalt carry much seed out into the field, and shalt gather but little in; for the locust shall consume it.
39 Thou shalt plant vineyards, and dress them, but shalt neither drink of the wine, nor gather the grapes; for the worms shall eat them.
40 Thou shalt have olive trees throughout all thy coasts, but thou shalt not anoint thyself with the oil; for thine olive shall cast his fruit.
41 Thou shalt beget sons and daughters, but thou shalt not enjoy them; for they shall go into captivity.
42 All thy trees and fruit of thy land shall the locust consume.
43 The stranger that is within thee shall get up above thee very high; and thou shalt come down very low.
44 He shall lend to thee, and thou shalt not lend to him: he shall be the head, and thou shalt be the tail.
45 Moreover all these curses shall come upon thee, and shall pursue thee, and overtake thee, till thou be destroyed; because thou hearkenedst not unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded thee:
46 And they shall be upon thee for a sign and for a wonder, and upon thy seed for ever.
47 Because thou servedst not the Lord thy God with joyfulness, and with gladness of heart, for the abundance of all things;
48 Therefore shalt thou serve thine enemies which the Lord shall send against thee, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in want of all things: and he shall put a yoke of iron upon thy neck, until he have destroyed thee.
49 The Lord shall bring a nation against thee from far, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flieth; a nation whose tongue thou shalt not understand;
50 A nation of fierce countenance, which shall not regard the person of the old, nor shew favour to the young:
51 And he shall eat the fruit of thy cattle, and the fruit of thy land, until thou be destroyed: which also shall not leave thee either corn, wine, or oil, or the increase of thy kine, or flocks of thy sheep, until he have destroyed thee.
52 And he shall besiege thee in all thy gates, until thy high and fenced walls come down, wherein thou trustedst, throughout all thy land: and he shall besiege thee in all thy gates throughout all thy land, which the Lord thy God hath given thee.
53 And thou shalt eat the fruit of thine own body, the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters, which the Lord thy God hath given thee, in the siege, and in the straitness, wherewith thine enemies shall distress thee:
54 So that the man that is tender among you, and very delicate, his eye shall be evil toward his brother, and toward the wife of his bosom, and toward the remnant of his children which he shall leave:
55 So that he will not give to any of them of the flesh of his children whom he shall eat: because he hath nothing left him in the siege, and in the straitness, wherewith thine enemies shall distress thee in all thy gates.
56 The tender and delicate woman among you, which would not adventure to set the sole of her foot upon the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye shall be evil toward the husband of her bosom, and toward her son, and toward her daughter,
57 And toward her young one that cometh out from between her feet, and toward her children which she shall bear: for she shall eat them for want of all things secretly in the siege and straitness, wherewith thine enemy shall distress thee in thy gates.
58 If thou wilt not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that thou mayest fear this glorious and fearful name, The Lord Thy God;
59 Then the Lord will make thy plagues wonderful, and the plagues of thy seed, even great plagues, and of long continuance, and sore sicknesses, and of long continuance.
60 Moreover he will bring upon thee all the diseases of Egypt, which thou wast afraid of; and they shall cleave unto thee.
61 Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, them will the Lord bring upon thee, until thou be destroyed.
62 And ye shall be left few in number, whereas ye were as the stars of heaven for multitude; because thou wouldest not obey the voice of the Lord thy God.
63 And it shall come to pass, that as the Lord rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you; so the Lord will rejoice over you to destroy you, and to bring you to nought; and ye shall be plucked from off the land whither thou goest to possess it.
64 And the Lord shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone.
65 And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest: but the Lord shall give thee there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of mind:
66 And thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and thou shalt fear day and night, and shalt have none assurance of thy life:
67 In the morning thou shalt say, Would God it were even! and at even thou shalt say, Would God it were morning! for the fear of thine heart wherewith thou shalt fear, and for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see.
68 And the Lord shall bring thee into Egypt again with ships, by the way whereof I spake unto thee, Thou shalt see it no more again: and there ye shall be sold unto your enemies for bondmen and bondwomen, and no man shall buy you.
