²⁰ Only the trees that you know ^[a]are not fruit trees you shall destroy and cut down, so that you may construct siegeworks against the city that is making war against you until it falls.

^52 (A)And it will besiege you in all your ^[a]towns until your high and fortified walls in which you trusted come down throughout your land, and it will besiege you in all your ^[b]towns throughout your land which the Lord your God has given you. ^53 (B)Then you will eat the ^[c]offspring of your own body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters whom the Lord your God has given you, during the siege and the hardship by which your enemy will ^[d]oppress you. ⁵⁴ The man who is ^[e]refined and very delicate among you ^[f]will be hostile toward his brother, toward the wife ^[g]he cherishes, and toward the rest of his children who are left, ⁵⁵ so that he will not give even one of them any of the flesh of his children which he will eat, since he has nothing else left, during the siege and the hardship by which your enemy will ^[h]oppress you in all your ^[i]towns.

⁸ I will also turn this city into an object of ^(A)horror and ^[a]hissing; ^(B)everyone who passes by it will be appalled and ^[b]hiss because of all its ^[c]disasters. ⁹ And I will make them ^(C)eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they will eat one another’s flesh during the siege and in the hardship with which their enemies and those who seek their life will torment them.”’
