Municipal Judges and Officers
18 You shall appoint judges and officials throughout your tribes, in all your towns that the Lord your God is giving you, and they shall render just decisions for the people. 19 You must not distort justice; you must not show partiality; and you must not accept bribes, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and subverts the cause of those who are in the right. 20 Justice, and only justice, you shall pursue, so that you may live and occupy the land that the Lord your God is giving you.

21 You shall not plant any tree as a sacred pole[a] beside the altar that you make for the Lord your God; 22 nor shall you set up a stone pillar—things that the Lord your God hates.

20 Der Gerechtigkeit, ja der Gerechtigkeit jage nach, damit du lebst und das Land besitzen wirst, das der Herr, dein Gott, dir geben will.

18 Mózes így folytatta: Izráel minden egyes törzsében és minden városotokban, amelyet Istenünk, az Örökkévaló ad nektek azon a földön, jelöljetek ki bírákat és elöljárókat, hogy igazságos ítéletet hozzanak. 19 Ezek a bírák és elöljárók részrehajlás nélkül szolgáltassanak igazságot a peres ügyekben. Mindig igazságosan ítéljenek, és soha ne engedjék magukat megvesztegetni. Ne fogadjanak el ajándékot senkitől, mert az még a bölcseket is elvakítja, az ártatlan embereket pedig megfosztja jogaiktól! 20 Minden erővel törekedjetek arra, hogy igazságot szolgáltassatok, és ragaszkodjatok az igazságossághoz minden áron! 18 Dans toutes les villes que l’Eternel votre Dieu vous donnera, vous instituerez des juges et des magistrats dans vos tribus, et ils jugeront le peuple en rendant de justes jugements. 19 Vous ne fausserez pas le cours de la justice, vous ne ferez pas preuve de partialité envers les personnes, et vous ne vous laisserez pas corrompre par des cadeaux, car ceux-ci aveuglent même les sages et compromettent la cause des innocents[a]. 20 Cherchez à rendre une pleine justice afin que vous viviez et que vous conserviez la possession du pays que l’Eternel votre Dieu vous donne.
21 Vous ne vous planterez pas de pieu sacré en bois à côté de l’autel que vous érigerez pour votre Dieu. 22 Vous ne dresserez pas non plus chez vous de ces stèles sculptées que l’Eternel votre Dieu déteste[b].
