Remember to Tithe

22 “Be sure to tithe annually from everything you plant that yields a harvest in the field. 23 Then in the presence of the Lord your God, in the place where he’ll choose to establish his name, you may consume the tithe of your grain, your new wine, your oil, and the firstborn of your livestock and flock, so that you’ll learn to revere the Lord your God all your life. 24 Now the way may be distant from you, so that you are unable to transport your tithe because you have been blessed by the Lord your God and the place where the Lord your God chooses to establish his name may be distant from you. 25 In that case, convert it into cash, secure the money,[a] and then bring it to the place where the Lord will choose. 26 You may spend the money to your heart’s content to buy livestock, flocks, wine, strong drink, and whatever you desire. You and your household may eat there and rejoice in the presence of the Lord your God.”

The Levitical Tithe

27 “But you must not forget the descendant of Levi in your town,[b] because there is no tribal allotment[c] for him as there is for you. 28 Every third year, bring all the tithes of your produce of that year and store them in your cities 29 so the descendants of Levi—who have no tribal allotment as you do—foreigners, orphans, and widows who live in your cities may come, eat, and be satisfied. That way, the Lord your God will bless you in everything you do.”[d]

22 “Certainly you must give a tithe of all the yield of your seed, which comes forth from your field year after year.[a] 23 And you shall eat before[b] Yahweh your God in the place that he will choose to make to dwell his name there the tithe of your grain, your wine and your olive oil and the firstling of your herd and your flock, so that you may learn to revere Yahweh your God always.[c] 24 But if the distance is too great for you,[d] so that you are not able to transport[e] it, because the place that Yahweh your God will choose to set his name there, it is too far from you, when Yahweh your God will bless you, 25 then in that case you may exchange for money,[f] and you shall take[g] the money to your hand and go to the place that Yahweh your God will choose. 26 You may spend the money for anything that you desire,[h] for oxen or for sheep or for wine or for strong drink or for anything that you desire,[i] and you shall eat it there before[j] Yahweh your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your household. 27 And as to the Levite who is in your towns,[k] you shall not neglect him, because there is not a plot of ground for him and an inheritance along with you.

28 “At the end of three years you shall bring out all of the tithe of your yield for that year, and you shall store it in your towns.[l] 29 And so the Levite may come, because there is no plot of ground for him or an inheritance with you, and the alien also may come and the orphan and the widow that are in your towns,[m] and they may eat their fill,[n] so that Yahweh your God may bless you in all of the work of your hand that you undertake.”
