¹³ Ephraim, ^(A)as I have seen, was like a young palm^[a] planted in a meadow;
    but ^(B)Ephraim must lead his children out to slaughter.^[b]

¹⁶ Ephraim is stricken;
    ^(A)their root is dried up;
    they shall bear no fruit.
Even ^(B)though they give birth,
    ^(C)I will put their beloved children to death.
