³⁸ “^(A)You will bring out a great amount of seed to the field, but you will gather in little, because ^(B)the locust will devour it. ^39 (C)You will plant and cultivate vineyards, but you will neither drink of the wine nor bring in the harvest, because the worm will eat it. ^40 (D)You will have olive trees throughout your territory but you will not anoint yourself with the oil, because your olives will drop off prematurely.

⁹ “^(A)You ^[a]start an ambitious project, but behold, it comes to little; when you bring it home, I ^(B)blow it away. Why?” declares the Lord of armies. “It is because of My house which ^(C)remains desolate, while each of you runs to his own house. ¹⁰ Therefore, because of you the ^(D)sky has withheld ^[b]its dew, and the earth has withheld its produce.

^16 [a]from that time when one came to a grain heap of twenty measures, there would be only ten; and when one came to the wine vat to draw fifty ^[b]measures, there would be only twenty. ¹⁷ I struck you and every work of your hands with ^(A)scorching wind, mildew, and hail; ^[c]yet you did not come back to Me,’ declares the Lord.
