24 “If a man takes a wife and marries her, and it happens ^[a]that she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found some ^(A)indecency in her, and ^(B)he writes her a certificate of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out from his house,

³¹ “Now it was said, ‘^(A)Whoever sends his wife away, let him give her a certificate of divorce’;

⁶ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.” ⁷ They *said to Him, “^(A)Why then did Moses command to give her a certificate of divorce and send her away?” ⁸ He *said to them, “Because of your hardness of heart Moses permitted you to ^[a]divorce your wives; but from the beginning it has not been this way.
