Deuteronomy 1:41-46
Lexham English Bible
41 “You replied and said to me, ‘We have sinned against Yahweh, and now we will go up and fight according to all that Yahweh our God commanded us’; and so each man fastened on his battle gear,[a] and you regarded it as easy to go up into the hill country. 42 So Yahweh said to me, ‘Say to them, “You shall not go up, and you shall not fight because I am not in your midst; you will be defeated before[b] your enemies.”’ 43 So I spoke to you, but you did not listen; you rebelled against the command of Yahweh;[c] you behaved presumptuously, and you went up into the hill country. 44 The Amorites living in the hill country went out to oppose you[d] and chased you as a swarm of wild honey bees do; and so they beat[e] you down in Seir as far as Hormah. 45 So you returned and wept before Yahweh;[f] but Yahweh did not listen to your voice and did not pay any attention to you. 46 You stayed in Kadesh many days; such were the days that you stayed there.

New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition
41 “You answered me, ‘We have sinned against the Lord! We are ready to go up and fight, just as the Lord our God commanded us.’ So all of you strapped on your battle gear and thought it easy to go up into the hill country.(A) 42 The Lord said to me, ‘Say to them: “Do not go up, and do not fight, for I am not in the midst of you; otherwise you will be defeated by your enemies.” ’(B) 43 Although I told you, you would not listen. You rebelled against the command of the Lord and presumptuously went up into the hill country.(C) 44 The Amorites who lived in that hill country then came out against you and chased you as bees do. They beat you down in Seir as far as Hormah.(D) 45 When you returned and wept before the Lord, the Lord would neither heed your voice nor pay you any attention.

41 Then you replied, “We have sinned against the Lord. We will go up and fight, as the Lord our God commanded us.” So every one of you put on his weapons, thinking it easy to go up into the hill country.
42 But the Lord said to me, “Tell them, ‘Do not go up and fight, because I will not be with you. You will be defeated by your enemies.’”(A)
43 So I told you, but you would not listen. You rebelled against the Lord’s command and in your arrogance you marched up into the hill country. 44 The Amorites who lived in those hills came out against you; they chased you like a swarm of bees(B) and beat you down from Seir(C) all the way to Hormah.(D) 45 You came back and wept before the Lord,(E) but he paid no attention(F) to your weeping and turned a deaf ear(G) to you. 46 And so you stayed in Kadesh(H) many days—all the time you spent there.
