4 «Ora dunque, o Israele, da' ascolto agli statuti e ai decreti che vi insegno, perché li mettiate i pratica, affinché viviate ed entriate in possesso del paese che l'Eterno, il DIO dei vostri padri, vi dà.
2 Non aggiungerete nulla a quanto vi comando e non toglierete nulla, ma impegnatevi ad osservare i comandamenti dell'Eterno, il vostro DIO, che io vi prescrivo.
3 I vostri occhi videro ciò che l'Eterno fece a Baal-Peor, poiché l'Eterno, il tuo DIO, distrusse in mezzo a te tutti coloro che avevano seguito Baal-Peor;
4 ma voi che siete rimasti fedeli all'Eterno, al vostro DIO, oggi siete tutti in vita.
5 Ecco, io vi ho insegnato statuti e decreti, come l'Eterno, il mio DIO, mi ha ordinato, affinché li mettiate in pratica nel paese in cui state per entrare per prenderne possesso.
6 Li osserverete dunque e li metterete in pratica; poiché questa sarà la vostra sapienza e la vostra intelligenza agli occhi dei popoli, i quali, udendo parlare di tutti questi statuti, diranno: "Questa grande nazione è un popolo saggio e intelligente!".
7 Quale grande nazione ha infatti DIO così vicino a sé, come l'Eterno, il nostro DIO, è vicino a noi ogni volta che lo invochiamo?
8 E quale grande nazione ha statuti e decreti giusti come tutta questa legge che oggi vi metto davanti?
9 Solo bada bene a te stesso e veglia diligentemente sull'anima tua, per non dimenticare le cose che i tuoi occhi hanno visto, e perché non si allontanino dal tuo cuore per tutti i giorni della tu vita. Ma insegnali ai tuoi figli e ai figli dei tuoi figli,
10 specialmente circa il giorno in cui sei comparso davanti all'Eterno, il tuo DIO, in Horeb, quando l'Eterno mi disse: "Radunami il popolo e io farò loro udire le mie parole, perché essi imparino a temermi per tutti i giorni che vivranno sulla terra e le insegnino ai loro figli".
11 Allora voi vi avvicinaste e vi fermaste ai piedi del monte; e il monte ardeva nelle fiamme, che si innalzavano in mezzo al cielo, e era circondato da tenebre, nuvole e fitta oscurità.
12 E l'Eterno vi parlò dal mezzo del fuoco; voi udiste il suono delle parole, ma non vedeste alcuna figura; udiste solo una voce.
13 Così egli vi promulgò il suo patto, che vi comandò di osservare, cioè i dieci comandamenti; e li scrisse su due tavole di pietra.
14 E a me, in quel tempo, l'Eterno ordinò d'insegnarvi statuti e decreti, perché li mettiate in pratica nel paese in cui state per entrare per prendere possesso.
15 Poiché dunque non vedeste alcuna figura il giorno che l'Eterno vi parlò in Horeb dal mezzo del fuoco, vegliate diligentemente sulle anime vostre,
16 perché non vi corrompiate e vi facciate qualche immagine scolpita, nella forma di qualche figura: la rappresentazione di un uomo o di una donna,
17 la rappresentazione di un animale che è sulla terra, la rappresentazione di un uccello che vola nel cielo,
18 la rappresentazione di ogni cosa che striscia sul suolo, la rappresentazione di un pesce che è nelle acque sotto la terra;
19 perché alzando gli occhi al cielo e vedendo il sole, la luna, le stelle, tutto cioè l'esercito celeste, tu non sia attirato a prostrarti davanti a queste cose e a servirle, cose che l'Eterno, il tuo DIO, ha assegnato a tutti i popoli che sono sotto tutti i cieli;
20 ma l'Eterno ha preso voi e vi ha fatto uscire dalla fornace di ferro, dall'Egitto, per essere suo popolo, sua eredità, come siete oggi.
21 Or l'Eterno si adirò contro di me per causa vostra, e giurò che non avrei passato il Giordano e non sarei entrato nel buon paese che l'Eterno, il tuo DIO, ti dà in eredità.
22 Così io morirò in questo paese, senza passare il Giordano; ma voi lo passerete e possederete quel buon paese.
23 Guardatevi dal dimenticare il patto che l'Eterno, il vostro DIO, ha stabilito con voi, e dal farvi alcuna immagine scolpita nella forma di qualsiasi cosa che l'Eterno, il tuo DIO, ti abbia proibita.
24 Poiché l'Eterno, il tuo DIO, è un fuoco consumante, un Dio geloso.
25 Quando avrai generato figli e figli dei figli, e sarete rimasti a lungo nel paese, se vi corrompete e vi fate delle immagini scolpite nella forma di qualsiasi cosa, e fate ciò che è male agli occhi dell'Eterno, il vostro DIO, per irritarlo,
26 io chiamo oggi a testimoniare contro di voi il cielo e la terra, che voi presto scomparirete completamente dal paese di cui andate a prendere possesso attraversando il Giordano. Voi non prolungherete in esso i vostri giorni, ma sarete interamente distrutti.
27 E l'Eterno vi disperderà fra i popoli, e non rimarrà di voi che un piccolo numero fra le nazioni dove l'Eterno vi condurrà.
28 E là servirete dèi di legno e di pietra, fatti da mano d'uomo, che non vedono, non odono, non mangiano e non odorano.
29 Ma di là cercherai l'Eterno, il tuo DIO; e lo troverai, se lo cercherai con tutto il tuo cuore e con tutta la tua anima.
30 Quando ti troverai nell'angoscia e ti saranno avvenute tutte queste cose, negli ultimi tempi, tornerai all'Eterno, il tuo DIO, e darai ascolto alla sua voce;
31 (poiché l'Eterno, il tuo DIO, è un Dio misericordioso); egli non ti abbandonerà e non ti distruggerà, e non dimenticherà il patto che giurò ai tuoi padri.
32 Interroga pure i tempi antichi, che furono prima di te, dal giorno in cui DIO creò l'uomo sulla terra, e chiedi da un'estremità dei cieli all'altra se vi fu mai una cosa grande come questa o si è mai udita una cosa simile a questa.
33 Vi fu mai alcun popolo che abbia udito la voce di DIO parlare di mezzo al fuoco, come l'hai udita tu, e sia rimasto in vita?
34 O vi fu mai alcun DIO che abbia provato ad andare a prendere per sé una nazione di mezzo a un'altra nazione mediante prove, segni, prodigi e battaglie, con mano potente e con braccio steso e con grandi terrori, come fece per voi l'Eterno, il vostro DIO, in Egitto sotto i vostri occhi?
35 Tutto questo ti è stato mostrato, affinché riconosca che l'Eterno è DIO e che non v'è alcun altro fuori di lui.
36 Dal cielo ti ha fatto udire la sua voce per ammaestrarti; e sulla terra ti ha fatto vedere il suo grande fuoco e hai udito le sue parole di mezzo al fuoco.
37 E perché ha amato i tuoi padri, egli ha scelto la loro progenie dopo loro e ti ha fatto uscire dall'Egitto con la sua presenza, mediante la sua grande potenza,
38 scacciando davanti a te nazioni piú grandi e piú potenti di te, per fare entrare te e darti il loro paese in eredità, come è oggi.
39 Sappi dunque oggi e ritienilo nel tuo cuore che l'Eterno è DIO lassù nei cieli e quaggiú sulla terra, e che non v'è alcun altro.
40 Osserva dunque i suoi statuti e i suoi comandamenti che oggi ti do, affinché abbia prosperità tu e i tuoi figli dopo di te, e affinché tu prolunghi i tuoi giorni nel paese che l'Eterno, il tuo DIO, ti dà per sempre».
41 Allora Mosè appartò tre città di là dal Giordano, verso est,
42 nelle quali potesse rifugiarsi l'omicida che avesse ucciso il suo prossimo involontariamente, senz'averlo odiato in precedenza, e perché potesse aver salva la vita, rifugiandosi in una di queste città:
43 Betser nel deserto nella regione pianeggiante per i Rubeniti, Ramoth in Galaad per i Gaditi, e Golan in Bashan per i Manassiti.
44 Or questa è la legge che Mosè espose ai figli d'Israele.
45 Questi sono i precetti, gli statuti e i decreti che Mosè diede ai figli d'Israele quando uscirono dall'Egitto,
46 di là dal Giordano, nella valle di fronte a Beth-Peor, nel paese di Sihon, re degli Amorei che abitava a Heshbon, e che Mosè e i figli d'Israele sconfissero quando uscirono dall'Egitto,
47 Essi presero possesso del suo paese e del paese di Og, re di Bashan, due re degli Amorei, che stavano di là dal Giordano, verso est,
48 da Aroer, che é sulle sponde del torrente Arnon, fino al monte Sion, (cioè il monte Hermon),
49 con tutta la pianura oltre il Giordano, verso est, fino al mare dell'Arabah, sotto le pendici del Pisgah.

Ang Israel ay pinaalalahanang sundin ang kautusan ng Panginoon.
4 At ngayon, Oh Israel, dinggin mo (A)ang mga palatuntunan at ang mga kahatulan, na aking itinuturo sa inyo, upang sundin ninyo; upang kayo'y mabuhay, at pumasok, at inyong ariin ang lupain na ibinibigay sa inyo ng Panginoon, ng Dios ng inyong mga magulang.
2 (B)Huwag ninyong daragdagan ni babawasan ang salita na aking iniuutos sa inyo, upang inyong maingatan ang mga utos ng Panginoon ninyong Dios na aking iniuutos sa inyo.
3 Nakita ng inyong mga mata ang ginawa ng Panginoon tungkol kay Baal-peor; sapagka't lahat ng mga tao na sumunod (C)kay Baal-peor, ay nilipol ng Panginoon mong Dios sa gitna mo.
4 Nguni't kayong umayon sa Panginoon ninyong Dios ay nangabubuhay pa ang bawa't isa sa inyo sa araw na ito.
5 Narito, aking tinuruan kayo ng mga palatuntunan at ng mga kahatulan, na gaya ng iniutos sa akin ng Panginoon kong Dios upang inyong gawing gayon sa gitna ng lupain na inyong paroroonan upang ariin.
6 Ingatan nga ninyo at inyong isagawa; sapagka't ito ang (D)inyong karunungan at ang inyong kaalaman sa paningin ng mga tao, na makakarinig ng mga palatuntunang ito, at magsasabi, Tunay na ang dakilang bansang ito ay isang pantas at maalam na bayan.
7 Sapagka't (E)anong dakilang bansa nga ang (F)may dios na napakalapit sa kanila, na gaya ng Panginoon nating Dios kailan man tayo'y tumawag sa kaniya?
8 At anong dakilang bansa nga, ang may mga palatuntunan at mga kahatulang napaka-tuwid na gaya ng buong kautusang ito, na aking inilalagda sa harap ninyo sa araw na ito?
9 Magingat ka lamang sa iyong sarili, at (G)ingatan mo ang iyong kaluluwa ng buong sikap, baka iyong malimutan ang mga bagay na nakita ng iyong mga mata, at baka mangahiwalay sa iyong puso ang lahat ng araw ng iyong buhay; kundi (H)iyong ipakilala sa iyong mga anak at sa mga anak ng iyong mga anak;
10 Yaong (I)araw na ikaw ay tumayo sa harap ng Panginoon mong Dios sa Horeb, nang sabihin sa akin ng Panginoon, Papagpisanin mo sa akin ang bayan, at aking iparirinig sa kanila ang aking mga salita, upang sila'y magaral na matakot sa akin sa lahat ng araw na kanilang ikabubuhay sa ibabaw ng lupa, at upang kanilang maituro sa kanilang mga anak.
11 At kayo'y lumapit at tumayo sa ibaba ng bundok; at (J)ang bundok ay nagningas sa apoy hanggang sa kaibuturan ng langit, sangpu ng kadiliman, ulap, at salisalimuot na kadiliman.
12 (K)At ang Panginoo'y nagsalita sa inyo mula sa gitna ng apoy; (L)inyong narinig ang tinig ng mga salita, nguni't (M)wala kayong anyong nakita; ang inyo lamang narinig ay isang tinig.
13 (N)At kaniyang ipinahayag sa inyo ang kaniyang tipan, na kaniyang iniutos sa inyong ganapin, sa makatuwid baga'y (O)ang sangpung utos; at (P)kaniyang isinulat sa dalawang tapyas na bato.
14 (Q)At iniutos sa akin ng Panginoon nang panahong yaon, na turuan ko kayo ng mga palatuntunan at mga kahatulan, upang inyong mangagawa sa lupaing inyong paroroonan upang ariin.
15 (R)Ingatan nga ninyong mabuti ang inyong sarili; sapagka't wala kayong nakitang anomang (S)anyo nang araw na magsalita ang Panginoon sa inyo sa Horeb mula sa gitna ng apoy:
16 Baka kayo'y mangagpakasama, at kayo'y (T)gumawa sa inyo ng isang larawang inanyuan na kawangis ng alin mang larawan, na kahawig ng lalake o babae,
17 Na kahawig ng anomang hayop na nasa lupa, na kahawig ng anomang ibong may pakpak na lumilipad sa himpapawid,
18 Na kahawig ng anomang bagay na umuusad sa lupa, na kahawig ng anomang isda na nasa tubig sa ilalim ng lupa:
19 At baka iyong itingin ang iyong mga mata sa langit, at kung iyong makita ang araw at ang buwan, at ang mga bituin, sangpu ng (U)buong natatanaw sa langit, ay mabuyo ka at iyong sambahin, at paglingkuran, na binahagi ng Panginoon ninyong Dios sa lahat ng mga bayan na nasa silong ng buong langit.
20 Nguni't kinuha kayo ng Panginoon, (V)at hinango kayo sa hurnong bakal, sa Egipto, (W)upang kayo'y maging sa kaniya'y isang bayang mana, gaya sa araw na ito.
21 Bukod dito'y nagalit sa akin ang Panginoon dahil sa inyo, at sumumpa na ako'y hindi tatawid sa Jordan, at hindi ako papasok sa mabuting lupaing yaon, na ibinigay ng Panginoon mong Dios sa iyo na pinakamana:
22 (X)Kundi ako'y nararapat mamatay sa lupaing ito, (Y)ako'y hindi nararapat tumawid sa Jordan: nguni't kayo'y tatawid, at inyong aariin (Z)ang mabuting lupaing yaon.
23 Mangagingat nga kayo, baka inyong malimutan ang tipan ng Panginoon ninyong Dios, na kaniyang pinagtibay sa inyo, at (AA)kayo'y gumawa ng larawang inanyuan na kahawig ng anomang bagay na ipinagbawal sa iyo ng Panginoon mong Dios.
24 Sapagka't ang (AB)Panginoon mong Dios ay isang apoy na mamumugnaw, (AC)mapanibughuing Dios nga.
25 Pagka ikaw ay nagkaanak at nagkaanak ang inyong mga anak, at nagluwat kayo ng malaon sa lupaing yaon, at nagpakasama kayo, at gumawa kayo ng larawang inanyuan na kahawig ng anomang bagay, at (AD)gumawa kayo ng masama sa paningin ng Panginoon mong Dios, upang mungkahiin ninyo siya sa kagalitan:
26 (AE)Ay aking tinatawag ang langit at ang lupa upang sumaksi laban sa inyo sa araw na ito, na kayo'y malilipol na madali na walang pagsala sa lupain na inyong tinutungo ng pagdadaan sa Jordan, upang ariin: hindi ninyo mapatatagal doon ang inyong mga araw, kundi kayo'y lubos na malilipol.
27 At (AF)pangangalatin kayo ng Panginoon sa mga bayan, at kayo'y malalabing kaunti sa bilang sa gitna ng mga bansa, na pagdadalhan sa inyo ng Panginoon.
28 (AG)At doo'y maglilingkod kayo sa mga dios, na yari ng mga kamay ng mga tao, kahoy at bato (AH)na hindi nangakakakita, ni nangakakarinig, ni nangakakakain, ni nangakakaamoy.
29 (AI)Nguni't mula roon ay iyong hahanapin ang Panginoon mong Dios, at iyong masusumpungan, kung iyong hahanapin siya ng buo mong puso at ng buo mong kaluluwa.
30 Pagka ikaw ay nasa kapighatian, at ang lahat ng mga bagay na ito ay dumating sa iyo (AJ)sa mga huling (AK)araw, ay magbabalik loob ka sa Panginoon mong Dios, at iyong didinggin ang kaniyang tinig.

33 (AO)Narinig ba kaya kailan man ng mga tao ang tinig ng Dios na nagsalita sa gitna ng apoy, gaya ng narinig mo, at nabuhay?
34 O may Dios kaya na nagsikap na yumaon at sumakop ng isang bansa sa gitna ng ibang bansa, (AP)sa pamamagitan ng mga tukso, (AQ)ng mga tanda, at ng mga kababalaghan, at ng pagbabaka, at (AR)ng makapangyarihang kamay, at (AS)ng unat na bisig, at (AT)ng mga malaking kakilabutan ayon sa lahat na ginawa ng Panginoon mong Dios sa iyo sa Egipto, sa harap ng iyong mga mata?
35 Sa iyo ipinakita ito, upang iyong makilala na ang Panginoon ay siyang Dios; (AU)wala nang iba liban sa kaniya.
36 (AV)Mula sa langit ay ipinarinig niya sa iyo ang kaniyang tinig, upang kaniyang turuan ka; at sa ibabaw ng lupa ay kaniyang ipinakita sa iyo ang kaniyang dakilang apoy, at iyong narinig ang kaniyang mga salita sa gitna ng apoy.
37 At sapagka't (AW)kaniyang inibig ang iyong mga magulang, kaya kaniyang pinili ang kaniyang binhi pagkatapos nila, at inilabas ka niya sa Egipto ng kaniyang pagharap, ng kaniyang dakilang kapangyarihan;
38 (AX)Upang palayasin sa harap mo ang mga bansang lalong malalaki at lalong makapangyarihan kay sa iyo, upang ikaw ay kaniyang papasukin, na ibigay sa iyo na pinakamana ang kanilang lupain, gaya sa araw na ito.
39 Talastasin mo nga sa araw na ito at isapuso mo, na (AY)ang Panginoon ay siyang Dios sa itaas sa langit at sa ibaba sa lupa; wala nang iba pa.
40 At iyong iingatan ang kaniyang mga palatuntunan at ang kaniyang mga utos, na aking iniuutos sa iyo sa araw na ito, (AZ)upang ikabuti mo, at ng iyong mga anak pagkamatay mo, at upang iyong mapalaon ang iyong mga araw sa ibabaw ng lupaing yaon, na ibinigay sa iyo magpakailan man ng Panginoon mong Dios.

41 Nang magkagayo'y (BA)inihiwalay ni Moises ang tatlong bayan sa dako roon ng Jordan sa dakong sinisikatan ng araw;
42 (BB)Upang ang nakamatay ng tao ay tumakas doon, na nakamatay sa kaniyang kapuwa na hindi sinasadya, at hindi niya kinapopootan nang panahong nakaraan; at sa pagtakas sa isa sa mga bayang ito ay mabuhay siya:
43 (BC)Sa makatuwid baga'y sa Beser, sa ilang, sa kapatagang lupa, na ukol sa mga Rubenita; at sa Ramoth sa Galaad, na ukol sa mga Gadita; at sa Golan sa Basan, na ukol sa mga Manasita.
Pinagtibay na muli ang utos.
44 At ito ang kautusang sinalaysay ni Moises sa harap ng mga anak ni Israel:
45 Ito ang mga patotoo, at ang mga palatuntunan, at ang mga kahatulan, na sinalita ni Moises sa mga anak ni Israel, nang sila'y lumabas sa Egipto;
46 Sa dako pa roon ng Jordan, (BD)sa libis na nasa tapat ng Beth-peor, sa lupain ni Sehon na hari ng mga Amorrheo na tumatahan sa Hesbon, (BE)na siyang sinaktan ni Moises at ng mga anak ni Israel, nang sila'y umalis sa Egipto;
47 At kanilang sinakop ang kaniyang lupain na pinakaari, (BF)at ang lupain ni Og na hari sa Basan, ang dalawang hari ng mga Amorrheo, na nangasa dako pa roon ng Jordan sa dakong sinisikatan ng araw;
48 (BG)Mula sa Aroer na nasa hangganan ng libis ng Arnon, hanggang sa bundok ng Sion (na siya ring (BH)Hermon),
49 At ang buong Araba sa dako roon ng Jordan sa dakong silanganan, hanggang sa dagat ng Araba sa ibaba ng gulod ng Pisga.

Obedience Commanded
4 Now, Israel, hear the decrees(A) and laws I am about to teach(B) you. Follow them so that you may live(C) and may go in and take possession of the land the Lord, the God of your ancestors, is giving you. 2 Do not add(D) to what I command you and do not subtract(E) from it, but keep(F) the commands(G) of the Lord your God that I give you.
3 You saw with your own eyes what the Lord did at Baal Peor.(H) The Lord your God destroyed from among you everyone who followed the Baal of Peor, 4 but all of you who held fast to the Lord your God are still alive today.
5 See, I have taught(I) you decrees and laws(J) as the Lord my God commanded(K) me, so that you may follow them in the land you are entering(L) to take possession of it. 6 Observe(M) them carefully, for this will show your wisdom(N) and understanding to the nations, who will hear about all these decrees and say, “Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.”(O) 7 What other nation is so great(P) as to have their gods near(Q) them the way the Lord our God is near us whenever we pray to him? 8 And what other nation is so great as to have such righteous decrees and laws(R) as this body of laws I am setting before you today?
9 Only be careful,(S) and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach(T) them to your children(U) and to their children after them. 10 Remember the day you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb,(V) when he said to me, “Assemble the people before me to hear my words so that they may learn(W) to revere(X) me as long as they live in the land(Y) and may teach(Z) them to their children.” 11 You came near and stood at the foot of the mountain(AA) while it blazed with fire(AB) to the very heavens, with black clouds and deep darkness.(AC) 12 Then the Lord spoke(AD) to you out of the fire. You heard the sound of words but saw no form;(AE) there was only a voice.(AF) 13 He declared to you his covenant,(AG) the Ten Commandments,(AH) which he commanded you to follow and then wrote them on two stone tablets. 14 And the Lord directed me at that time to teach you the decrees and laws(AI) you are to follow in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess.
Idolatry Forbidden
15 You saw no form(AJ) of any kind the day the Lord spoke to you at Horeb(AK) out of the fire. Therefore watch yourselves very carefully,(AL) 16 so that you do not become corrupt(AM) and make for yourselves an idol,(AN) an image of any shape, whether formed like a man or a woman, 17 or like any animal on earth or any bird that flies in the air,(AO) 18 or like any creature that moves along the ground or any fish in the waters below. 19 And when you look up to the sky and see the sun,(AP) the moon and the stars(AQ)—all the heavenly array(AR)—do not be enticed(AS) into bowing down to them and worshiping(AT) things the Lord your God has apportioned to all the nations under heaven. 20 But as for you, the Lord took you and brought you out of the iron-smelting furnace,(AU) out of Egypt,(AV) to be the people of his inheritance,(AW) as you now are.
21 The Lord was angry with me(AX) because of you, and he solemnly swore that I would not cross the Jordan and enter the good land the Lord your God is giving you as your inheritance. 22 I will die in this land;(AY) I will not cross the Jordan; but you are about to cross over and take possession of that good land.(AZ) 23 Be careful not to forget the covenant(BA) of the Lord your God that he made with you; do not make for yourselves an idol(BB) in the form of anything the Lord your God has forbidden. 24 For the Lord your God is a consuming fire,(BC) a jealous God.(BD)
25 After you have had children and grandchildren and have lived in the land a long time—if you then become corrupt(BE) and make any kind of idol,(BF) doing evil(BG) in the eyes of the Lord your God and arousing his anger, 26 I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses(BH) against you(BI) this day that you will quickly perish(BJ) from the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess. You will not live there long but will certainly be destroyed. 27 The Lord will scatter(BK) you among the peoples, and only a few of you will survive(BL) among the nations to which the Lord will drive you. 28 There you will worship man-made gods(BM) of wood and stone,(BN) which cannot see or hear or eat or smell.(BO) 29 But if from there you seek(BP) the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart(BQ) and with all your soul.(BR) 30 When you are in distress(BS) and all these things have happened to you, then in later days(BT) you will return(BU) to the Lord your God and obey him. 31 For the Lord your God is a merciful(BV) God; he will not abandon(BW) or destroy(BX) you or forget(BY) the covenant with your ancestors, which he confirmed to them by oath.
The Lord Is God
32 Ask(BZ) now about the former days, long before your time, from the day God created human beings on the earth;(CA) ask from one end of the heavens to the other.(CB) Has anything so great(CC) as this ever happened, or has anything like it ever been heard of? 33 Has any other people heard the voice of God[a] speaking out of fire, as you have, and lived?(CD) 34 Has any god ever tried to take for himself one nation out of another nation,(CE) by testings,(CF) by signs(CG) and wonders,(CH) by war, by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm,(CI) or by great and awesome deeds,(CJ) like all the things the Lord your God did for you in Egypt before your very eyes?
35 You were shown these things so that you might know that the Lord is God; besides him there is no other.(CK) 36 From heaven he made you hear his voice(CL) to discipline(CM) you. On earth he showed you his great fire, and you heard his words from out of the fire. 37 Because he loved(CN) your ancestors and chose their descendants after them, he brought you out of Egypt by his Presence and his great strength,(CO) 38 to drive out before you nations greater and stronger than you and to bring you into their land to give it to you for your inheritance,(CP) as it is today.
39 Acknowledge(CQ) and take to heart this day that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other.(CR) 40 Keep(CS) his decrees and commands,(CT) which I am giving you today, so that it may go well(CU) with you and your children after you and that you may live long(CV) in the land the Lord your God gives you for all time.
Cities of Refuge(CW)
41 Then Moses set aside three cities east of the Jordan, 42 to which anyone who had killed a person could flee if they had unintentionally(CX) killed a neighbor without malice aforethought. They could flee into one of these cities and save their life. 43 The cities were these: Bezer in the wilderness plateau, for the Reubenites; Ramoth(CY) in Gilead, for the Gadites; and Golan in Bashan, for the Manassites.
Introduction to the Law
44 This is the law Moses set before the Israelites. 45 These are the stipulations, decrees and laws Moses gave them when they came out of Egypt 46 and were in the valley near Beth Peor east of the Jordan, in the land of Sihon(CZ) king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon and was defeated by Moses and the Israelites as they came out of Egypt. 47 They took possession of his land and the land of Og king of Bashan, the two Amorite kings east of the Jordan. 48 This land extended from Aroer(DA) on the rim of the Arnon Gorge to Mount Sirion[b](DB) (that is, Hermon(DC)), 49 and included all the Arabah east of the Jordan, as far as the Dead Sea,[c] below the slopes of Pisgah.
